Counseling and Assessment Specialist The Counseling/Assessment Specialist plays a key role in supporting students' social-emotional and mental health needs while collaborating closely with the School Psychologist, IEP teams, and MTSS Student Support teams. The Specialist will provide direct counseling and behavioral support services to identified students, conduct psychoeducational assessments in collaboration with the school psychologist, participate in MTSS and IEP processes, and partner with families, staff, and community agencies to design and implement interventions and services that promote student wellbeing and success.Reports to:

Commensurate with degree level and experienceMinimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related field MSW, LCSW, LPCMH, or other Master's level professional mental health or behavioral intervention certification and licensure School Social Worker licensure (preferred) Successfully completed a supervised internshipPreferred Qualifications:
Experience in the assessment and reporting of academic achievement, social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Experience with IEP development Experience working with unique populations who have emotional/behavioral needs within a school setting.Professional Expectations:
Execute the mission and vision of Newark Charter School through expectations, beliefs, instructional delivery, curricular fidelity, engagement in school community and through parental engagement. Act ethically and professionally, as well as, promote a culture of excellence with high expectations for all students and community members. Dedicate actions to the belief that all students can learn when they are challenged, supported, respected and motivated. Collaborate with students' IEP team to develop social emotional/behavioral goals on students' IEPs. Provide direct counseling services to students with IEP goals and/or who are referred through the MTSS process. In collaboration with the School Psychologist, evaluate the academic, social, and emotional needs of students to help determine eligibility for special education services as well as the need for behavioral intervention and counseling supports. Interprets and reports evaluation findings in collaboration with the School Psychologist. In conjunction with the School Psychologist, conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and assist in developing Behavior Support/Intervention Plans. Participate in IEP meetings, to include reporting of assessment results and progress, providing input for decision-making (e.g., eligibility, programming, manifestation determination). Provide crisis-related social-emotional and behavioral support, including participation in risk/threat screenings. Collaborate with families and the school community to determine a student's educational needs and provide recommendations for interventions and supports. Coordinate mental health and social services with outside agencies. Provide direct support and professional development opportunities for staff to increase their knowledge and skills related to supporting students' emotional and behavioral well being, including the implementation of trauma informed practices. Support with attendance interventions, truancy, and McKinney-Vento processes at the building level. Maintain confidentiality, as well as accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Engage in professional learning and be committed to continual growth and improvement as an educator. Perform other duties as assigned.Standard Requirements:
