Counter Sales Specialist Lumber & Hardware

1st shift

• 8 hour shifts Monday
• Friday between the hours of 7a
• 6p +every other Saturday 8a-4p.

Position Summary The Counter Sales Specialist primarily supports contractors and trade customers purchasing lumber, hardware, doors, windows, decking, and general building materials. The role also assists homeowners and walk-in customers when needed, while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, efficiency, and dependable service for repeat professional customers. This position operates at the sales counter in a fast-paced lumber and hardware environment and requires strong product knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple orders and customer needs throughout the day. Key Responsibilities Sales &Customer Service

• Serve contractors and trade customers as the primary focus of the counter, while also assisting homeowners and walk-in customers as needed
• Quote materials, answer product questions,and process sales transactions accurately and efficiently
• Support job-related orders for lumber,decking, hardware, doors, windows, and general building materials
• Identify up selling and cross-selling opportunities to ensure orders are complete and aligned with project needs
• Provide practical, solution-oriented recommendations based on job scope, specifications, and budget Product Knowledge & Expertise
• Maintain strong working knowledge of lumber products, treated materials, decking, hardware, fasteners, and general building supplies
• Understand basic applications for doors,windows, and exterior building materials sold at the location
• Assist customers in selecting appropriate materials for construction, repair, and renovation projects
• Stay informed on new products, vendor programs, and applicable promotions Order Management & Accuracy
• Enter orders accurately in the system,ensuring correct SKUs, quantities, pricing, and pickup or delivery details
• Communicate with yard, warehouse, and store teams to support timely fulfillment
• Address order shortages, discrepancies, and special-order issues promptly
• Assist with reorders, returns, and project changes as needed Store &Team Support
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional counter area
• Support general store operations during peak times or staffing needs, as required
• Work collaboratively with store leadership and team members to ensure positive customer experience Relationship Building
• Build and maintain strong relationships with repeat customers, particularly contractors
• Support PC Home Stores' reputation as a dependable local supplier of lumber and building materials

Qualifications Required:

• 2+ years of experience in lumber, hardware,building materials, or construction-related sales
• Strong understanding of general building materials and hardware products
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Ability to multitask in a contractor-focused environment
• High attention to detail and order accuracy

Preferred:

• Experience working in a lumberyard, hardware store, or building supply environment
• Familiarity with POS and order entry systems
• Knowledge of decking, doors, windows, or exterior building materials
• The ability to read a blueprint and complete a basic take-off Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand for extended periods at a sales counter
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs occasionally
• Comfortable working in a retail, warehouse,and yard-adjacent environment
• Forklift certification or willingness to become certified Screening Requirements
