293392939 Job Description Summary Drives a passenger van or equivalent vehicle to transport clients between locations using an established schedule and on special trips by dispatch or prior arrangement. In lieu of transporting will perform office assistant functions. Distinguishing Career Features The Courier-Driver position is an entry-level transportation position with a secondary responsibility of office assistant duties. Transportation will include short and long distance driving, utilizing road maps. Office duties include general office practices and procedures. This positon reports to the Community Health Representative & Wellness Coordinator. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Transporting Duties Drives a passenger vehicle, van or equivalent over designated routes and established time schedules, picking up and discharging clients, or, may drive for special events. May escort clients across streets and roadways when necessary. Ensures passenger safety and observes guidelines for vehicle capacity. Delivers and pick up clients in various age groups, planning routes, delivers packages and documents, filing, read road maps and GPS. Maintains a personal contract journal/telephone log and schedule for transports or meets clients to purchase items at stores (may need to schedule for more than one client). Maintains contact with clients for their transportation needs and schedules vehicle use accordingly. Maintains safe driving habits and follow driving laws, i.e. follow speed limits, traffic signs, seatbelt requirements, and precautions on hazardous roadways. Maintains accurate and program administrative records. Processes billing documentation after each transport and provides documentation to Transportation Coordinator. Inspects vehicle prior to operation for safety compliance. Cleans windshields and headlights. Cleans interior and exterior of vans as needed, including, but not limited to, picking up debris, cleaning the floor, and wiping and cleaning upholstery. Cleans and sanitizes vehicle after use to ensure it is ready for next transport. Services vehicle with fuel, oil and other fluids. May be required to inspect and replace common accessories and perform other vehicle servicing requiring similar skill and ability level. Identifies and reports problems or equipment malfunctions. Initiates work order requests, describing the problem or circumstance. Completes accurate trip records as required by State laws and policies. Files accident or incident reports. May be required to perform first aid or emergency assistance. Attends courses and meetings that contribute to continuing driver education. Attends meetings, seminars, and trainings assigned by supervisor to enhance job performance. Reads road maps and find locations using Global Positioning System. Client Care Duties Records all activities with residents on intake forms, notes, charts, in a clear, concise manner. Reports all changes in the client's condition to the nurse supervisor/floor nurse immediately. Reports all accidents/incidents observed on the shift immediately. Schedules appointments for clients to their different medical appointments, maintain the transport calendar. Ensures clients are properly positioned and secured for safety using seat belts, wheelchair belts and assists with other transporting devices, cane, and walker. Ensures all-applicable medical records and/or transfer materials accompany the resident to appointments. Ensures all paperwork affiliated with travel such as mileage forms, logs, insurance, vehicle registrations are completed. Reports all injuries of unknown origin immediately to supervisor. Verifies client'sMEDICAID
eligibility. Performs other duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position. Office Assistant Duties Answers telephone calls, routes to proper staff and performs other clerical duties for the Operations Director, PHN and/or CHR, when needed. Greets customers in a professional manner and provides assistance as needed. Assists with the process of timesheets, vouchers, purchase orders and orders and picks up supplies. Assists with file management, types, files, and routes documents as needed. Communicates with staff, clients and general public in written form, on the telephone, and in person. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, public, and clients at all times. Works independently, follow oral and written instructions with minimal supervision. Performs other duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position. Qualifications Knowledge and Skills Requires a working knowledge and understanding of safe driving practices. Requires a basic knowledge of the operating and mechanical characteristics of a passenger van/vehicle. Must have a basic understanding of tribal, state laws, rules and regulations pertaining to passenger van/vehicle operations and transportation of personnel. Requires knowledge and understanding of verbal and written communication with various types of ages. Requires knowledge of reading road maps and using a Global Positioning System (GPS). Requires a working knowledge of vehicle maintenance. Requires knowledge of long-term care setting. Requires knowledge of resident abuse and neglect. Requires knowledge of patient rights. Requires knowledge in case management filing system. Requires knowledge and understanding in how to apply CPR/first aid. Requires sufficient reading and writing skills to prepare logs and reports following established formats. Requires sufficient human relations skill to maintain harmony within a work team, show patience and enthusiasm, with customers, and convey a positive image of the Colville Tribes. Requires knowledge and skill in using computers and various programs; Microsoft Office. Requires familiarity with reservation lifestyles and culture. Requires knowledge of local demographics to include Community and Health Care Resources, Community Disease profiles, and Cultural norms and practices. Requires knowledge of State Traffic Laws, Vehicle Maintenance and Safety. Requires knowledge of Native American Cultures as it relates to clientele served. Requires skills in defensive driving techniques, minor vehicle repair, and radio communication/ alert. Requires Customer Service, Customer Focus, Bedside Manner, Physical Fitness, Verbal Communication, Listening, Documentation Skills, Decision Making, Patient Services, Health Care Administration, Health Promotion and Maintenance skills. Requires Electronic Health Records knowledge or experience. Abilities Requires the ability to perform all of the duties of the position with minimal supervision. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Requires the ability to drive a passenger van/vehicle safely and efficiently while keeping to well-established schedules. Requires the ability to read and understand laws, rules, regulations and procedures for safe passenger van/vehicle operation and inspection. Requires the ability to recognize malfunctions in equipment and take appropriate action. Requires the ability to maintain the assigned vehicle in clean and safe operating condition. Requires the ability to learn, become certified, and apply first aid. Requires the ability to read road maps and find locations with just an address. Requires the ability to learn city street layouts and designated routes, including stops and traffic hazards. Requires the ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks. Requires the ability to maintain required records. Requires the ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, clients and the general public. Requires the ability to work as contributing member of a team, work productively and cooperatively with other teams and external customers, and convey a positive image of the Colville Tribes and its services. Requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Requires the ability to communicate effectively in written format and verbally. Requires the ability to relate clear and concise information concerning a resident's condition. Requires the ability to make independent decisions. Requires the ability to uphold accurate records. Requires the ability to make independent decisions. Physical Abilities Requires the ability to function in a vehicle and outdoors engaged in work of an moderately active nature. Requires arm-hand and leg-foot dexterity to drive a vehicle and/ or van. Requires visual acuity including depth perception to observe moving objects. Requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time. Requires hearing sufficient to be aware of traffic and road distractions/conditions and listen to customers. Requires the ability to assist passengers with limited mobility and lift passenger ambulatory aids such as wheel chairs onto platforms. . Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to walk to project locations, to stand for extended periods of time, and to bend and stoop for limited periods of time. Requires sufficient arm-hand-eye coordination to operate a computer keyboard and pointing devises at a proficient level. Requires sufficient visual acuity to read technical documents and instructions. Requires the ability to lift, push, pull and carry objects of medium weight (less than 50 lbs.). Requires the ability to follow proper administrative notification for use of vehicles and trips beyond the 100-mile limitations. Requires the ability to work non-standard work hours. Requires the ability to drive in adverse weather conditions. Education and Experience The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent plus three to six months' experience. Successful completion of the necessary classroom instruction related to skills and safety requirements for driving a passenger vehicle/van may be required. Licenses and Certificates Requires a valid driver's license and to be eligible for Tribal Insurance. Requires a 1st aid/CPR card or able to obtain within first 90 days of employment. Requires a TB test with negative results or obtain within 15 days of employment. RequiresHIV/AIDS
certification and Defensive Driving certification or able to obtain within 90 days of hire and maintain throughout employment. Requires Electronic Health Records access and training. Working Conditions Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environment where there is some exposure to safety considerations when working with a vulnerable population. Special Conditions This position is identified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to pre-employment, post-accident, random, and reasonable suspicion drug testing. Must submit to and successfully clear an extensive criminal background inquiry (Tribal, State and financial) demonstrating no felonies, or violations of law involving children, elderly or disabled and include fingerprints verification and maintain clearance throughout employment. Requires reference checks demonstrating better than average work attendance. Requires a healthy life style for the past three years and maintain alcohol and drug abuse free throughout employment. Indian preference will apply. Preference will also be given to honorably discharged Veterans who are minimally qualified.
