RATE OF PAY
$19.50 hourly, plus a comprehensive benefits package, to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement system

Under general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in maintaining the safety and security of the Courts and court services personnel; performs related duties as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. TYPICAL DUTIES
(Illustrative Only) Evaluates and implements safety, security, and evacuation plans and procedures within court facilities; assists in patrolling courthouse facilities; maintains order and enforces laws; taking subjects into custody; assists in protection of life and property in and around courthouse facilities; screens all persons, bags, briefcases, packages, containers, etc., entering courthouse facilities; maintains chain of custody concerning confiscated weapons or contraband entering courthouse; recommends and implements corrective actions to improve courthouse security facilities; conducts bailiff duties in a courtroom, and may serve as a training instructor for the department. Must be a minimum of 21 years old; possess a high school diploma or equivalent. This position requires urinalysis testing, a criminal history check, and fingerprinting. The candidate chosen for this position must successfully complete a psychological evaluation, and the Court Security Officer Academy. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License and the ability to be covered by county insurance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference may be given to individuals with previous law enforcement or detention experience and/or are bilingual in English and Spanish in speaking, writing, and reading.
Working knowledge of:
principles and practices of court security, methods, and techniques for providing safety and security and the provisions of providing emergency services; safe and lawful handling and use of firearms and defensive weapons; pertinent laws and regulations; defensive tactics and application of non-lethal weapons for controlling volatiles situations; court procedures; proper two-way radio communication; legal terminology; clerical office practices and procedures; business English, spelling, and grammar. Skill in: the operation of office equipment; the operation of word processing system; the operation of radio communication equipment; organization and adherence to detail. Ability to: prepare clear and comprehensive reports; keep court users safe from internal or external harm; work under pressure in a highly dynamic work environment with changing demands and priorities; make good observations, recall facts, and maintain a security awareness of the courthouse facilities; evaluate and respond to security problems in a swift, effective manner and with appropriate actions; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public; handle confidential matters and maintain discretion; act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy; sit or stand for extended periods of time; follow written and verbal instruction; read, write, and speak English.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed under general supervision. Incumbent generally works in a typical office or courtroom setting with appropriate climate controls. Travel may be required. May require working evenings and weekends.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential functions of this position require: lifting up to 50 pounds, manual dexterity, fine motor skills, ability to communicate. Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, feel or manipulate with hands.
