We educate over 5,600 students in 11 school buildings, including Weymouth Early Childhood Center, eight elementary schools (grades K-5), Chapman Middle School (grades 6-8), and Weymouth High School (Grades 9-12). Weymouth Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and dedicated instructor to lead our Chapter 74 Automotive Technology program. This role is designed to prepare students for exciting, high-value careers and diverse college and postsecondary opportunities. By mastering the state-mandated framework, our students achieve immediate automotive success through industry-recognized credentials and advanced technical training that provides a foundation for lifelong professional growth.
Qualifications:
Licensure:
Valid Massachusetts DESE Chapter 74 license in Automotive Technology. Candidates not currently licensed must be eligible and willing to obtain licensure within the required state and district timelines and participate in all required professional development training.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of full-time, directly related employment in the automotive industry.
Credentials:
Current ASE Certification or similar certification in at least 3 areas of Automotive Technology; knowledge of OSHA 10 General Industry and S/P2 Safety & Pollution Prevention protocols.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent; passing scores on required Vocational Technical Literacy and Communication tests (or the ability to pass them within the first year of employment).
General Duties:
Career & College Readiness:
Deliver high-quality instruction based on the July 2025 Automotive Technician Standards, ensuring students are prepared for both immediate entry into the workforce and advanced postsecondary advancement.
Technical Mastery:
Instruct students in the 36 foundational standards, with a focus on core areas such as Drum and Disc Brake Systems (Standard 11), Electrical Systems (Standard 14), and Engine Performance (Standard 31).
Industry Certification:
Provide students with the training needed to earn Essential Credentials, such as ASE Entry-Level Certifications, which have been shown to lead to improved hiring outcomes and increased earnings.
Employability Skills:
Model and teach Standard 34 Employability Skills, including professional communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and ethical behavior in a modern shop environment.
Technical Precision:
Train students to apply the "Three C's" (Concern, Cause, and Correction) to all diagnostic procedures and to use precision measuring tools, such as Vernier calipers and micrometers, proficiently.
Safety Leadership:
Strictly adhere to OSHA and EPA regulations, prioritizing the consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe procedures for high-pressure and high-voltage systems.
Professional Development:
Commit to ongoing learning to stay current with evolving industry trends, such as computerized diagnostic tools and advanced vehicle safety features.
Other Duties:
Performance of other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of CTE or Principal.
