Job Description Position Summary One Cultural Resources Technician (Seasonal Worker, Full-time, 40 hours/week) position is available with the Colorado State University (CSU) Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position will provide entry-level training and experience on a range of natural resources projects supporting the Cultural Resources Management (NRM) program at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. This position is part of CEMMLs Early-career Development Program (ECDP) which bridges academic training and professional practice by providing hands‑on, mentored internships and early‑career positions supporting federal lands management. To learn more, please visit https://cemml.colostate.edu/ecdp/ A Cultural Resources Technician supports the identification, documentation, and preservation of historic buildings and structures, archaeological sites, and collections. Key duties include conducting building and site surveys, shovel testing, mapping, and artifact analysis, alongside database management and public outreach; this will be outdoors in often rugged terrain. While familiarity in archaeology is preferred, the successful candidate must have experience in architectural history and recording historic properties. Potential Work activities may include but are not limited to the tasks below: Historic buildings: identify and evaluate historic buildings and districts, conduct condition assessments, and complete/ update state forms and real property records National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Section 106 compliance: assist with review of undertakings, draft correspondence with State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) and other consulting parties Help draft administrative records reports and agreement documents Support public outreach efforts: interpret sites for a public audience, prepare interpretive materials, develop exhibits and public outreach materials Tribal relations program support Cemetery management: verify/validate location of historically mapped cemeteries on DAF lands and conduct historical research on cemeteries and their occupants (some interviews may be needed) Archaeological fieldwork: locate, identify, and delineate archaeological sites; conduct subsurface testing and site monitoring Assist with recording/processing data, photo documentation, and collection of artifacts Collaboration and outreach: support work with other installation organizations and installation partners on cultural resources projects This position is not-to-exceed 195 working days. This position is onsite, and the Cultural Resources Technician must have reliable transportation to the site. The ECDP is unable to provide relocation or housing stipends. None Minimum Qualifications Pursuing a Bachelor's in archaeology

  • or cultural resources-related field (at least a sophomore standing) At least 3 months and no more than 3 years of relevant experience, which may include internships, fieldwork, seasonal jobs, volunteer work, or applied coursework.

Familiar with the basic principles of the NHPA and Section 106 compliance Experience conducting research and compiling background information. Experience organizing and planning historical/archival/archaeological research projects. Experience inventorying and assessing cultural properties Prior experience photographing archaeological sites/properties or historic buildings and structures. Experience with cultural resources database entry (eg. tDAR).
