Part-time, Full-time Job Summary:
Visitor Information Centers are the first point of entry for many visitors/travelers to Maine. Custodians at the Visitor Information Center perform duties that result in these visitors/travelers to Maine being greeted with a clean, attractive and welcoming center. A Custodian is detail-oriented, flexible and willing to take on non-routine cleaning and special projects as the need arises. The Custodian will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms, trash receptacles and public areas. Ability to take direction in regard to grounds keeping and snow removal tasks is required. The Custodian under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor will be responsible for maintaining the center's grounds and facilities in compliance with the MDOT contract.Job Responsibilities:
- Work under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor.
Facilities Supervisor:
○ Unsafe work practices or conditions. ○ The need for training on various cleaning/grounds keeping practices or equipment. ○ Inability to report for duty on time or inability to complete assigned shifts. ○ Shortages in necessary cleaning supplies or equipment. ○ Cleaning or grounds keeping equipment in need of service or repair. These items should be reported to the Facilities Supervisor as soon as practicable.- Notify VIC staff as well as the Facilities Supervisor of any irregular situations or any safety/security concerns. Contact local emergency organizations or 911 as needed. Gather appropriate/relevant information regarding such incidents and fill out a Maine Tourism Association incident Report and provide this report to the Facilities Supervisor
- Perform general clean-up of all areas of the building.
These would include:
door handles, door knobs, counter tops, handrails, etc.…. ○ Vacuum and care for carpeting. ○ Wash windows and polish furniture ○ Clean bathroom sinks, toilets and urinals ○ Empty building trash containers. Empty outside trash containers located throughout the property.- Complete non-routine cleaning tasks as directed by the Facilities Supervisor. Handle emergency cleaning and upkeep requests from VIC staff.
- Perform basic grounds keeping tasks as directed by the Facilities Supervisor. These tasks include but are not limited to: ○ Raking ○ Weeding ○ Trash/debris pick up ○ Mowing (If trained on equipment) ○ Snow removal (If trained on equipment)
- Ensure soap and hand sanitizer dispensers are filled as needed. Ensure toilet paper and paper towel dispensers are filled as needed. Report to the Facilities Supervisor any restroom equipment that is inoperable or not operating correctly. Maintain "Weekly Restroom Cleaning Logs".
- Review and understand all hazard communications that are provided to you in regard to work hazards. If further clarification is required after review of material and/or training, the custodian is to report this to the Facilities Supervisor.
- Participate in all training provided by the Maine Tourism Association and its staff. These trainings include but are not limited to: ○ On the job training of custodian duties
- Training is to ensure the custodian understands how to perform their duties and perform these duties safely ○ HAZCOM training
- Training to familiarize custodian staff with Maine Tourism Association's Hazard Communication program and the custodian's responsibilities in regard to the program.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- A valid driver's license with a good driving record is required for a Hampden Visitor Information Center Custodian.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to make independent decisions when required.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with other staff, support personnel, management, association members, and center visitors on a regular basis.
- Ability to remain professional and courteous at all times
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as assigned; hours are flexible
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as well as maintain productivity in down times.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
Pay:
$21.00- $24.
