Job Description

The custodian performs a variety of housekeeping duties to maintain the center in a sanitary, orderly and attractive condition.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Ensures that all center areas, including classrooms, restrooms, hallways and other common areas within the facility, are thoroughly clean and ready for children and staff the following day. Maintains a consistent schedule associated with floor and carpet care, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, shampooing, spot scrubbing, etc. Upholds facility hygiene by performing daily waste removal and ensuring that waste collection areas are clean and safe to use. Performs routine checks and restocks restroom paper and soap supplies to ensure availability and support hygiene. Conducts scheduled deep cleaning of interior surfaces (including walls, windows, furniture, baseboards, and other items) to uphold a sanitary and safe setting for children. Maintains an inventory of custodial supplies and equipment that allows timely ordering to ensure the quality of their work. Promptly completes other tasks as assigned by the Center Director. Proactively looks for safety concerns within the facility and reports them to the Center Director. Utilizes supplies in an efficient and effective manner to prevent waste.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent Must possess excellent time management skills Must possess or obtain required state and federal clearances Proper attendance is required. Employees are expected to arrive on time, every day, able and available to work. May require travel to other centers within the county.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand for long periods throughout the workday with intermittent periods of sitting, walking, and occasional bending, twisting, stooping, reaching and grasping as necessary to carry out essential job duties. Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers and hands to simple movements of feet, legs, and torso as necessary to carry out essential job duties. Lifting and carrying of children and/or objects up to 50 pounds.
