Job Description

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the health center/office and the surrounding grounds. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Custodian work experience in a medical or business office preferred. Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures. Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals. Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules. Individual must be professional, self-motivated and demonstrate excellent internal and external customer service.
Skills required:
strong attention to detail, communication, teamwork and time-management skills. Must demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to Eastern Shore Rural Health and its Mission Statement. Bilingual skills are a plus. Follows procedures for storage and disposal of trash, inside and outside, and transports to designated areas. Replenish paper and soap supplies where needed throughout the building.
Floors:
Vacuum entire building and vents. Clean and shampoo spots on the carpet where necessary and keep vinyl floors clean. Advise Assistant Center Manager a deep cleaning of carpets or a "spring and fall cleaning" of the building is needed.
General Cleaning:
Dust and polish the furniture throughout the building. Dust all pictures and frames. Wipe off woodwork, baseboards, chair railings, spots on walls, doors, chairs, file cabinets, desks, tables and blinds with a damp cloth. Clean tile and grout.
Kitchens & Bathrooms:
Clean and disinfect toilets and clean sinks. Clean refrigerator weekly, microwave daily and kitchen cabinets as needed. Keep the front door and all windows clean. Clean/sterilize exam rooms and/or rooms that have been contaminated as instructed. Clean bodily fluid spills as required, following protocol. Keep grounds including front entrance and parking lots free of litter. Responsible for notifying Center Manager or Assistant Center Manager of safety issues and needed repairs or maintenance. Designate supplies needed for the next month.
