Mascotte Charter School, Inc. Custodian Job Description
JOB GOAL
Performs the regular and recurring cleaning maintenance and housekeeping of the facility and grounds using any equipment authorized and available.
SPECIFIC
DUTIES and
RESPONSIBILITIES
Examples of essential functions: Performs custodial tasks, i.e., emptying and cleaning waste receptacles; washing windows; dusting furniture; cleaning vents, fans, walls, bathrooms, carpets/floors. Performs sanitizing tasks in various facility areas, i.e., restrooms, cafeterias, classrooms, drinking fountains. Uses electrical cleaning equipment in the cleaning of the assigned facility during hours assigned, i.e., vacuum cleaners, shampoo machines, high speed buffers. Uses appropriate chemicals and cleaners safely and productively according to instructions and established State Department of Education regulatory to ensure personal, student, public, and staff safety. Ensures assigned areas are properly opened daily, and fully secured upon completion of daily tasks, i.e., locking doors and windows, turning off electrical units. Performs physically demanding tasks requiring use of heavy custodial equipment, i.e., mopping, stripping, waxing, floor buffing. Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, broken windows, broken locks. Moves furniture and other equipment in the performance of duties. Cleans equipment and tools after use and maintains cleanliness and order in storage areas ensuring that all cleaning equipment and tools are safely locked out of the reach of students. Reports equipment malfunctions and facility maintenance needs to immediate supervisor. Performs routine maintenance on facility custodial equipment, such as changing vacuum cleaner belts and bags, and changing buffer machine pads. Performs non-cleaning tasks in general facility maintenance, i.e., changing light bulbs, filling paper and soap dispensers, assisting in setting up for meeting/conferences. Functions independently, or as part of a custodial crew depending on the nature of the task, such as in seasonal facility preparations, or other major custodial projects. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment and stocks supplies as necessary. Assists in securing all rooms, buildings, gates and facilities after daily use or servicing. Attend in-service training sessions on custodial related subjects. Maintain regular communication with the Supervisor and Principal. Responds to emergency situations; may be required to respond outside normal working hours. Performs work in accordance with sound safety practices. Performs related duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Designee.
ADA Compliance Physical Ability:
Tasks require the ability to exert strenuous effort in work involving heavy physical activity typically involving some combination of standing; walking; sitting; reaching with hands and arms; kneeling; crawling; climbing; balancing; bending; crouching or twisting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds and push and/or pull up to 100 pounds. Manual dexterity is required.
Sensory Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, tasks require oral communication ability; the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds; the ability to perceive and discriminate odors; visual perception and discrimination; and the ability to distinguish color.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as wet or humid conditions (non-weather); extreme temperature; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; work at heights up to 12 feet; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; noise and vibration. Ability to withstand exposure to dust, mold, fiberglass, and various chemicals with proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Minimum Training, Experience, and Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED preferred. Experience in custodial work or equivalent training.
