To maintain the physical plant and grounds of assigned buildings in a condition of operating excellence to provide students, staff, and the public with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and environment; and leading, overseeing and supporting assigned personnel in the performance of their job functionsPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and oversee all assigned building related cleaning, maintenance and repair work, maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. Perform cleaning and other custodial duties as required; steps in to cover cleaning assignments if substitute custodians are not available or the workload requires (works overtime if duties require). Assist grounds personnel with snow removal. Assist in the selection, assignment, scheduling, and training of members of the custodial staff. Provides orientation to new employees, coordinates vacation/leave schedules, etc. Monitor the time records of all custodians in his/her charge and certifies for wage payments; pre-authorizes any overtime required. Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (i.e. facility damage, unauthorized persons, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment. Perform as first responder for security alarms in assigned building(s). Maintain the inventory and recommend purchase of suitable supplies, tools, and equipment. Provide input to the administrator of assigned building and Supervisor of Grounds on the performance of the custodial staff on a regular basis. Strive constantly to promote safety, health and comfort of the students, staff and the public. Report needed supplies, inspect and report water leaks, potential repairs, unsafe conditions, electrical or mechanical failures, hazards or concerns to the Supervisor immediately. Prepare facilities and equipment needed for special events in the building Comply with federal, state, and local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of supplies, trash, rubbish and waste. Participate in District required safety and other training opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Supervisor of Grounds/Maintenance. Project a professional, appropriate presence among staff and students. Work under minimal supervision following standardized practices and/or methods while being cognizant of budget constraints and considerations. Supervise full time and substitute custodians in day to day responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
Ability to withstand repetitive extremity movement (i.e. mopping, sweeping, etc.) Tolerance of moderate exposure to weather extremes Tolerance of frequent exposure to various airborne particles, various supplies containing potentially hazardous materials or chemicals Tolerance of exposure to bloodborne pathogens or potentially infectious materials. Active supervising and monitoring skills Ability to operate equipment used in industrial cleaning, maintenance, common tools, etc. Ability to adhere to all applicable safety practices Knowledge in understanding multi-step written and oral instructions Knowledge in methods of industrial cleaning Knowledge of safety practices and procedures Knowledge of the use of basic tools for minor repairs, confined space entry and boiler maintenance Flexibility to work with others in a variety of circumstances Ability to work utilizing defined and similar processes Ability to operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups Ability to problem solve to analyze issues and create action plans Ability to apply independent interpretation to situations Able to adapt to changing work priorities Ability to communicate with diverse groups Ability to work weekends and holidays Ability to meet deadlines and schedules Possesses strong oral and written communication skills Works independently with little direct supervision Works as part of a team Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve District goals Displays effective multitasking and time management skillsLANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee will experience significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. The employee will frequently be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. The employee may also experience some climbing and balancing. The employee must possess lower body strength to stand/walk throughout the work shift (and overtime, if required), and must possess upper body strength to lift up to 30-50 pounds regularly and 85-90 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 70% walking, and 25% standing, and is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.EVALUATION
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certified or classified personnel.SALARY SCHEDULE
This position will be paid according to the approved Classified Buildings & Grounds Salary Schedule.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 260
days, unless otherwise assigned by the supervisor.CLEARANCES
