This individual will be responsible for overseeing daily service operations, parts inventory management, technician productivity, customer satisfaction, and departmental profitability. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of outdoor power equipment, excellent organizational abilities, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. This position requires someone who can effectively balance customer needs, technician workflow, inventory management, and business objectives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Service Department Management Oversee daily operations of the service department, including scheduling, workflow, and repair prioritization. Manage and support service technicians to ensure quality repairs and efficient turnaround times. Monitor technician productivity, efficiency, and performance. Review and approve repair estimates and work orders. Ensure all repairs are completed according to manufacturer specifications and company standards. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment. Parts Department Management Manage parts inventory, purchasing, receiving, and stocking. Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support service and retail operations. Develop relationships with vendors and manufacturers. Monitor inventory turns and minimize obsolete inventory. Ensure accurate pricing, ordering, and inventory controls. Customer Service Serve as the primary point of contact for service-related customer concerns. Communicate repair status, timelines, and estimates to customers. Resolve customer issues professionally and promptly. Build long-term customer relationships through exceptional service. Leadership & Team Development Recruit, train, coach, and develop service and parts team members. Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback. Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment. Lead by example through professionalism and strong work ethic. Business Operations Monitor departmental sales, labor, and profitability goals. Develop strategies to improve efficiency, revenue, and customer satisfaction. Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and manufacturer requirements. Qualifications Proven dealership experience with outdoor power equipment or similar machinery is highly preferred. Extensive service technician experience with mechanical repair, electrical systems, schematics reading, and diesel engine repair. Strong knowledge of automotive repair principles as they relate to outdoor power equipment. Hands-on experience with equipment repair, including generators, heavy machinery, and power tools. Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics accurately for troubleshooting complex issues. Excellent customer service skills with a focus on clear communication and problem-solving. Mechanical knowledge related to Caterpillar engines or similar heavy-duty equipment is a plus. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting safely during repairs or parts handling.
