Fire Apparatus Service Manager True North Emergency Equipment Salary:
Starting at $100,000 + benefits
Hours:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Lead the Team That Keeps First Responders Ready At True North Emergency Equipment, our work directly supports the people who protect communities every day. We're looking for a Service Manager with fire apparatus experience who understands that downtime isn't an option when lives depend on the equipment. Why This Role is Different This isn't a typical service manager role. You'll be working in a niche industry where your team's work directly impacts emergency response readiness. Your experience with fire apparatus won't just be valued—it will be essential. The Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the service and maintenance operations for fire apparatus, emergency vehicles, and related equipment. This role manages service staff, coordinates repair and maintenance schedules, ensures high-quality workmanship, and maintains strong relationships with fire departments and emergency service agencies. If you've worked on fire trucks, pumps, aerials, or emergency response systems and are ready to step into a leadership role—or already leading a shop—this is an opportunity to make a real impact. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily operations of the service department, including repairs, maintenance, and field service activities. Support diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of pumpers, aerials, and emergency equipment systems. Ensure work meets NFPA standards and safety requirements. Supervise service technicians, shop staff, and field service teams. Monitor technician productivity, coach performance, and develop your team. Ensure work orders are completed and invoiced within 48 hours of job completion. Manage budgets, KPIs, and departmental profitability. Maintain strong relationships with fire departments and fleet customers Manage parts ordering and coordinate with vendors to ensure necessary components are available for repairs. Support troubleshooting of complex mechanical or technical issues related to fire apparatus and emergency vehicles. Work closely with the Service Writer and Parts team to ensure rapid job completion and parts availability. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in vehicle service operations, heavy equipment repair, emergency apparatus service, or a related field. Experience working with fire apparatus, emergency vehicles, or public safety equipment. Familiarity with pump systems, apparatus maintenance, or emergency equipment service. Previous leadership or management experience in a service or maintenance environment. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, vehicle maintenance, and repair processes. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and service schedules. What Makes You a Strong Fit 5+ years of fire apparatus service experience. Experience as a Service Manager, Shop Foreman, or Lead Technician in; Fire apparatus, Heavy-duty/diesel fleet, Emergency vehicles or municipal equipment. Strong working knowledge of; pump systems, hydraulics, electrical, and diagnostics. and preventive maintenance for emergency fleets. Proven leadership—able to coach technicians and build a high-performing team. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage workflow in a fast-paced shop.
