The Natural Gas Service Manager supervises and supports a team of Service Technicians while also performing field work, responding to natural gas emergencies, troubleshooting equipment, assisting customers, and helping ensure the safe and reliable operation of ORUD's natural gas system. ORUD does! Position Summary ORUD Natural Gas is seeking an experienced and motivated Natural Gas Service Manager to lead and support our Service Department. This position supervises Service Technicians while actively participating in field operations involving natural gas equipment, customer service, emergency response, compliance activities, and maintenance operations. The Service Manager schedules service and maintenance work, assists technicians with troubleshooting and repairs, responds to customer concerns, and helps ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards. The successful candidate will be a working supervisor who can lead by example, build strong relationships with customers and employees, and effectively balance field operations, scheduling, compliance responsibilities, and personnel management. What You'll Do Leadership & Supervision Supervise, train, coach, and support Service Technicians Schedule and coordinate daily service work and maintenance activities Plan, assign, and direct work priorities Assist with employee development and performance management Help recruit, interview, and onboard new employees Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and customer service Technical & Field Responsibilities Work in a rotating on-call schedule Respond to natural gas emergency calls and take corrective action Assist technicians with troubleshooting and repair of customer gas equipment Replace regulators, control valves, thermocouples, pilots, and related components Perform meter and regulator installations and replacements Schedule and oversee meter change-outs, regulator replacements, leak surveys, and related maintenance activities Turn natural gas service on and off for customers Pressure test customer piping systems Assist with compliance inspections and system safety activities Repair leaks in customer fuel gas piping Perform utility line locates when needed Complete required reports and documentation Customer & Regulatory Responsibilities Serve as a primary resource for customers regarding natural gas equipment and service issues Resolve customer concerns and complaints professionally Coordinate with code inspectors and regulatory representatives Assist customers in understanding safe operation and maintenance of natural gas equipment Stay current with industry standards, codes, regulations, and emerging technologies Who Succeeds in This Position? Successful candidates often come from backgrounds such as: Natural gas utility operations Utility service supervision HVAC service management Commercial or industrial maintenance leadership Plumbing or mechanical contracting supervision Pipeline operations and maintenance Electrical or instrumentation supervision Construction foreman or superintendent roles Utility field operations leadership Military technical leadership occupations Minimum Qualifications To be considered, applicants must: Reside within a 10-mile actual driving distance of 603 Scarboro Road, Oak Ridge, TN Possess a valid driver's license with no moving violation suspensions or revocations within the past 24 months Possess at least five years of natural gas utility experience or closely related technical experience Demonstrate leadership or supervisory experience Demonstrate strong mechanical and technical aptitude Be able to regularly lift at least 50 pounds and occasionally lift 75 pounds Be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions Be able to work safely in elevated, confined, and physically demanding environments Be able to meet federal Operator Qualification requirements Why the Residency Requirement? Due to emergency response responsibilities, the Natural Gas Service Manager must live within a 10-mile actual driving distance of ORUD's operations facility in Oak Ridge to ensure timely response to natural gas emergencies while serving on the mandatory rotating on-call schedule. Preferred Qualifications Natural gas utility supervisory experience Experience managing service technicians or field crews Knowledge of natural gas codes, regulations, and utilization equipment Experience responding to emergency service situations Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills Experience with scheduling and coordinating field operations Schedule Full-time position Monday through Friday 40 hours per week Rotating on-call responsibilities Additional overtime opportunities The rotating on-call schedule provides additional overtime earning opportunities while helping ensure the safety and reliability of our community's natural gas system. Additional Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Ability to read and follow safety procedures, regulations, work orders, and operating instructions Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, contractors, and regulatory representatives Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing Ability to respond during emergency situations as required Why ORUD?
