Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Service Writer with hands-on engine building experience to act as a liaison between customers and the service department. The ideal candidate understands engine components and repair processes, enabling accurate job estimates, clear communication, and efficient workflow coordination. Key Responsibilities Greet customers and assess service needs Create detailed repair orders and accurate cost estimates Translate technical engine issues into clear, customer-friendly explanations Communicate repair timelines, pricing, and updates to customers Coordinate with technicians to ensure accurate diagnostics and repair plans Review engine rebuild estimates, parts lists, and labor requirements Monitor job progress and ensure timely completion Process invoices and warranty documentation Maintain detailed service records and customer history Handle customer concerns and resolve service-related issues Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred) Prior experience as a Service Writer, Service Advisor, or similar role Hands-on engine building or engine repair experience Strong understanding of internal combustion engines (gas and/or diesel) Ability to read and interpret technical repair documentation Strong computer and point-of-sale system proficiency Excellent verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications ASE Certification (Service Consultant or Engine Repair) Experience with dealership or independent repair shop management systems Knowledge of parts sourcing and labor time guides Familiarity with performance or heavy-duty engine applications Key Skills & Competencies Customer service excellence Technical knowledge of engine systems Estimating and pricing accuracy Problem-solving and conflict resolution Time management and organization Team coordination and communication Work Environment Front office and shop interaction Fast-paced service department Occasional exposure to shop noise and environment
