SHIFT REQUIREMENT
This is an awake shift position in a 24/7 shelter environment. Staff must remain alert and actively engaged throughout their assigned shift. About Central California Family Crisis Center, Inc. Central California Family Crisis Center, Inc. (CCFCC) is a culturally and linguistically competent multi-service nonprofit organization dedicated to serving those affected by domestic and sexual violence, elder abuse, economic deprivation, and homelessness. We emphasize client-centered, trauma-informed care and work with diverse partners to promote individual, family, and community transformation. Summary of Position The Client Advocate is responsible for providing direct crisis intervention, shelter-based support services, and shift-level operational oversight within a 24/7 emergency shelter environment. This position ensures the safety, structure, and daily functionality of the shelter during assigned shifts, while supporting clients through crisis stabilization, orientation, and connection to resources. The Client Advocate is also responsible for enforcing shelter policies, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with agency and funder requirements. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Client Services (approximately 50-60% of time): Respond to 24/7 crisis hotline calls, providing immediate support, safety planning, and referrals Provide direct, in-person crisis intervention and peer support to shelter residents Complete client intakes and orientation, including explanation of shelter rules, confidentiality, and expectations Provide referrals and support to connect clients with counseling, legal and family-related resources, and community-based services Maintain a trauma-informed, survivor-centered approach in all client interactions Assist with and/or facilitate support groups or client engagement activities Shelter Operations & Monitoring (approximately 25-30% of time): Oversee daily shelter operations during assigned shift, ensuring a safe and structured environment Enforce shelter rules, curfews, and program expectations, including addressing and documenting non-compliance Monitor client movement and overall safety within the shelter Conduct routine safety checks of the shelter and surrounding grounds Assign and monitor completion of resident chores and shared responsibilities Assist with meal coordination, food monitoring, and shelter supply needs Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and order of the shelter environment Documentation & Data Entry (approximately 10-15% of time): Maintain accurate and timely daily logs, client records, and service documentation Enter required data into HMIS and agency systems in compliance with program standards Complete incident reports and documentation of safety concerns or rule violations Ensure clear and consistent shift-to-shift communication and documentation handoff Maintain documentation in accordance with funder, audit, and agency requirements Other Duties (approximately 10% of time): Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and supervision Collaborate with shelter staff, case managers, and leadership Provide coverage support across shifts or programs as needed Participate in outreach or community activities when assigned Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required Minimum of 1 years of direct service experience in a shelter, crisis intervention, victim services, or related human services setting required Experience working with victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, or vulnerable populations strongly preferred
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to respond effectively to crisis situations and provide emotional support Ability to enforce rules and maintain structure in a trauma-informed and professional manner Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and make sound decisions during active shifts Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, HMIS preferred) Ability to provide services using a trauma-informed and survivor-centered approach Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all client and agency information Other Requirements Valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and an insurable driving record Must have a clear State DOJ and FBI criminal background check Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen Completion of 40-hour Domestic Violence Counselor/Advocate certification (State of CA) Must obtain 40-hour Human Trafficking Certification (if applicable) Completion of Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (every 2 years) Must meet program eligibility requirements in accordance with agency policy and funding guidelines Work Environment This position operates in a confidential 24/7 emergency shelter environment, which may include exposure to high-stress or crisis situations. The noise level may vary from quiet to moderately high depending on shelter activity. The 'Essential Duties & Responsibilities' and 'Qualifications' listed are considered essential job functions. Bending, lifting, and carrying up to 40 pounds (files/boxes) required. Both standing and sitting are required for extended periods. Ability to climb stairs in facilities and client housing. Ability to hear, see, and communicate detailed instructions and information clearly in person and over the phone. Manual dexterity required for repetitive motion using hands, wrists, and/or fingers for computer and office equipment
