Job Description

Community Service Representative - Colorado Springs Police Department This position is an administrative position stationed at the front desk of one of the Colorado Springs Police Department substations. This position provides non-emergency and emergency customer service, providing information, resources, and assistance to citizens who walk-in or phone the police department. This position submits property through the evidence portal, completes missing person and runaway reports, helps with Direct Line Reports (DLR), and reviews online reports. This position assists officers, detectives, staff, civilians, and volunteers with administrative tasks including accessing law enforcement specific databases to obtain pertinent information to police investigations, assisting with booking paperwork, providing new court dates, and notary assistance. This position must be proficient with computers and maintain a working knowledge of Colorado Revised Statutes and Police Department policies and procedures when providing research and investigative assistance to police officers. Other duties include monitoring division surveillance systems, back-up to department senior office specialist, and distributing division mail. As a Community Service Representative, you will: Provides quality customer service and assistance to the public and police personnel by assisting customers with general police information; assisting walk-ins with non-emergency and emergency calls for police; and using multiple computer programs and databases to accomplish these tasks. Gather information and write reports that would qualify for Direct Line Reporting (DLR), runaways, missing persons, theft, property crimes, and other qualifying situations. Complete pending DLR reports/calls for service and complete supplements. Monitor and review online reports for required information and approval. Receive and process lost and found property and place items into evidence when necessary. Assists internal units with administrative and investigative requests, as well as required paperwork. Ensures facility security by screening visitors to the building; monitoring closed-circuits digital surveillance system; monitoring prisoners and officers' safety in holding cells; and monitoring and operating electronic gates and building doors. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate: Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of computer systems and ability to learn and use specific computer software Ability to type with speed and accuracy Ability to collect and prepare evidence Ability to communicate verbally and in writing including writing reports and summaries, with proficiency in spelling and grammar Ability to testify in court, as necessary Ability to make decisions regarding implementation of policies Ability to handle stressful contacts and negative interactions Ability to respond with high levels of tact Minimum Qualifications Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED). One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field Candidate must be able to obtain a Colorado notary within 3 months of hire Candidate must be able to obtain
NCIC/CCIC
certification within 3 months of hire
Education and Experience Equivalency:
One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of academic coursework directly related to this position beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience. Preferred Qualifications Type 40 wpm College level coursework in the criminal justice field Law enforcement experience
Work Schedule:
This position provides coverage 24/7 and 365 days a year. You must be able to work your assigned shift (6a - 4p; 2p-12a; 9p-7a) on weekdays, weekends and holidays. Schedule is four, 10-hour shifts. You must be able to work overtime as operationally necessary.
