Job Description

Basic Purpose of the
Job:
The City of Montrose seeks a motivated and friendly individual to join our Public Works Department. This position will under general direction, provide quality customer service to citizens with needs pertaining to Public Works, Utilities and Engineering Divisions. Supplies information and addresses requests and complaints. Assists public works, utilities and engineering personnel as needed. Creates and distributes work orders to appropriate Public Works and Utilities Division Superintendents. Maintains business records and reports and assists with projects. Hours Expected 28 hours per week. Alternating, standard work shifts during hours of business operations. ILLUSTRATIVE

Provide quality customer service by providing information and forwarding requests and complaints to Public Works and Utilities Division Superintendents. These include requests for street maintenance, trash and recycling services, park services, water and sewer services and all emergency services. Coordinate and monitor the Adopt-a-Street/Trails program with superintendents of Park and Street Divisions Create and distribute work orders to appropriate division superintendents from requests from the Public. Calculate cost from completed work orders and deliver to Finance Department for processing. Research a variety of topics as needed and summarizes findings. Prepare graphics and text for city advertisements and brochures. Process departmental invoices and create requisitions. This can include calling vendors, tracking invoices, filing, and keeping statistical information. Responsible for accepting and processing payment for excavation permits, expended recycling, or other Public Works operations. Monitor vending machines stock level and addressing as necessary. Make necessary purchases & deposits after taking inventory. Monitor Public Works Yard access gate activity allowing vendors and public access to Public Works facilities. Assist the Public Works and Utilities Directors, division superintendents and City Engineer as needed. Coordinate arrangements for meetings, receptions and other events including food, room set-up, delivery etc. Compose and distribute meeting minutes when directed. Collect, sort and distribute mail, answer telephone, receive and distribute messages, and perform similar administrative tasks. May be requested to offer clerical assistance to other departments within the City of Montrose. Job Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one (1) year of courses from a college or technical school in business or public works related field preferred. Three (3) years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Must be proficient in operating computer systems to include but not limited to: Microsoft Office products, Caselle Clarity. Licensures & Certificate s (must be active and current.): Current Colorado driver's license with acceptable record.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 30 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer; vision for reading and preparing written reports and documents; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens. Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment. May be subjected to a variety of airborne particles and loud noise. Subject to many interruptions and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
