A "heavy duty mechanic service advisor" is a customer service professional who works at a truck repair shop, primarily responsible for interacting with customers regarding the service and repair needs of their heavy-duty vehicles, including taking detailed information about vehicle issues, providing accurate repair estimates, scheduling appointments, and communicating with the mechanics to ensure timely completion of repairs while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction; essentially acting as the liaison between the customer and the heavy duty mechanics. Key responsibilities of a heavy-duty mechanic service advisor: Customer interaction: Greet customers upon arrival, listen to their concerns about their truck, and gather detailed information about vehicle symptoms and service history.
Vehicle inspection:
Conduct basic visual inspections of the truck to identify potential problems and confirm customer concerns.
Estimate creation:
Generate accurate repair estimates, including parts and labor costs, based on the vehicle inspection and customer needs.
Repair order creation:
Prepare detailed repair orders for the mechanics, outlining the necessary work, parts required, and estimated completion time.
Communication with mechanics:
Clearly communicate repair details to the technicians, ensuring they understand the required work and any specific customer instructions.
Progress updates:
Keep customers informed about the status of their truck repairs throughout the process.
Parts ordering:
Order necessary parts for repairs, coordinating with the parts department to ensure timely availability.
Customer follow-up:
Contact customers after repairs are completed to confirm satisfaction and address any concerns.
Maintenance recommendations:
Advise customers on routine maintenance schedules to prevent future issues and maximize vehicle uptime.
Required skills and knowledge:
Technical knowledge: Understanding of heavy-duty truck systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and chassis components.
Customer service skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with customers and handle inquiries effectively.
Salesmanship:
Ability to explain repair needs clearly and recommend additional services when appropriate.
Computer proficiency:
Familiarity with repair order systems, parts databases, and other relevant software.
