Job Description

Position Summary The Automotive Service Writer serves as the primary point of contact between customers and the service department. This role is responsible for greeting customers, understanding vehicle concerns, recommending appropriate maintenance and repairs, preparing estimates, and ensuring excellent customer service throughout the repair process. Key Responsibilities Greet customers promptly and professionally Listen to customer concerns and document vehicle issues accurately Schedule service appointments and coordinate workflow with technicians Prepare repair orders and service estimates Communicate recommended repairs and maintenance needs to customers Obtain customer approval for repairs and additional services Collaborate with Service Parts Manager to obtain necessary parts and supplies Monitor repair progress and provide status updates Review completed work orders and explain repairs performed Process payments and close repair orders Maintain accurate customer and vehicle records Ensure customer satisfaction and resolve service-related concerns Promote additional services and maintenance recommendations when appropriate Follow shop policies, safety standards, and procedures Report any safety issues, equipment failures, supply needs, etc. to the owner Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Previous automotive service writing or customer service experience preferred Knowledge of automotive systems and repair terminology Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Basic computer and data entry skills Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities Valid driver's license preferred Skills & Competencies Customer service excellence Attention to detail Time management Professional phone etiquette Team collaboration Conflict resolution Working Conditions Fast-paced automotive service environment Frequent interaction with customers and technicians Standing, walking, and occasional lifting may be required May work evenings or weekends depending on business needs
