Job Description

Arenac Public Transit Authority (APTA) is looking for a dispatcher. Previous experience is preferred but not necessary. As a dispatcher you would be interacting with Arenac County residents and scheduling their rides while also communicating with drivers out in the field via radio. Because rides are scheduled through a computer-based dispatch software, proficient computer knowledge and skill is also required. All staff are required to pass pre-employment background checks, drug and alcohol screening, along with random drug and alcohol screens throughout employment.
Responsibilities:
Manage large amounts of incoming calls Gather detailed transportation request information with positivity. Build sustainable relationships with community through friendly interactive communication and actively listening. Communicate clearly details regarding scheduled rides, fees, and times. Accurate record keeping of customer feedback, positive and negative. Follow communication procedures, guidelines, and policies with customers and colleagues. Create a positive office environment with general public, community partners, and colleagues.
Skills:
Computer competency Must be knowledgeable of Arenac County logistics; towns, villages, cities, road infrastructure Must be familiar with travel challenges related to a rural county. Familiarity with Excel; creating and updating spreadsheets. Strong phone contact handling skills and active listening. Ability to access multiple factors and determine an appropriate solution. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong decision making confidence. Compassionate understanding of varying staff roles and responsibilities. Familiarity with multiline phone system Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively. Practices excellent time management and work ethics. High school degree or equivalent
Specifics:
Full Time, 6 a.m. - 1 p.m. / 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. Most days some flexibility for special events. Rotating Saturdays (9-5) No holidays, or Sundays. Advancement opportunities
