Job Description

About us: The Customer Service division serves as the primary point of contact for customers regarding their utility accounts. Customers can visit or contact the office to establish new service, request billing adjustments, and receive assistance with account or service-related questions.
What you will do:
An employee in this class is responsible for handling customer inquiries relating to utility billings and general services. Work involves heavy public contact functions and coordination with other departments within the City's organizational structure. This is a part-time position with scheduled hours not to exceed 1,508 a year.
Customer Support:
Address customer complaints, orders, errors, account inquiries, billing issues, cancellations, and other service-related queries.
Service Applications:
Process and verify applications for utility services, ensuring compliance with guidelines.
Work Order Management:
Create and complete work orders for service activations (cut-ons) and terminations (cut-offs).
Communication and Issue Resolution:
Respond to customer concerns and service-related inquiries via phone, email, and mail, providing efficient and effective solutions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of City policies, rules, and regulations regarding utility building and utility maintenance. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with the general public. Ability to be flexible and multi-task. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the general public.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED with considerable office work experience involving heavy public contact; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work in this class is described as being sedentary and seldom requires much physical exertion to complete tasks. Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of reaching, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned in preparing and analyzing figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal viewing and extensive reading.
