Job Description

Role Summary In this part-time, hybrid role, you'll be the friendly, knowledgeable voice our patients and customers reach by phone and email. You'll answer product and order questions, troubleshoot basic issues, and coordinate with internal teams to resolve requests. Because you'll also serve as our licensed HMDR Exemptee, you'll be on-site to oversee the proper handling and dispensing of prescription devices in compliance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) requirements. Key Responsibilities Respond to inbound customer and patient inquiries by phone and email in a timely, professional, and empathetic manner. Assist with orders, product questions, returns, basic troubleshooting, and follow-up. Document interactions accurately in the company's CRM/order systems. Serve as the on-site licensed Exemptee , ensuring prescription devices are stored, handled, and dispensed in accordance with CDPH Food and Drug Branch regulations. Be physically present during the business hours in which prescription devices are furnished, sold, or dispensed, as required by California law. Maintain required records and support CDPH inspections and internal compliance audits. Coordinate with fulfillment, clinical, and management teams to resolve customer issues. Uphold patient privacy and applicable HIPAA and regulatory standards. Required Qualifications Eligibility to serve as a licensed Exemptee for a California HMDR , meaning you can obtain and maintain a current, valid CDPH Home Medical Device Retailer Exemptee license. Per CDPH requirements, this generally includes: High school diploma or GED equivalent. At least one (1) year of paid work experience supervised by a licensed Exemptee, Pharmacist-in-Charge, or equivalent (or comparable qualifying experience per CDPH). Completion of a CDPH-approved Exemptee training program covering state and federal laws on the distribution of dangerous drugs and devices, safe storage and handling of home medical devices, and prescription terminology, abbreviations, and format. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Reliable, organized, and comfortable working independently on-site. Ability to work a part-time schedule that includes evening shifts. Proficiency with standard computer applications, email, and CRM or order-management systems. Qualifying Experience for Exemptee Licensure To be eligible for the CDPH Exemptee license, candidates must have at least one year of paid work experience related to the distribution or dispensing of prescription drugs or prescription ("dangerous") devices, supervised by a licensed Exemptee, Pharmacist-in-Charge, or equivalent. Backgrounds that commonly meet this requirement include: Pharmacy Technician Pharmacy Clerk / Pharmacy Aide (with dispensing-related duties) Home Medical Device Retailer (HMDR) or Durable Medical Equipment (DME) specialist Respiratory Equipment or Home-Oxygen Delivery Technician Respiratory Therapist / Respiratory Care Practitioner Designated Representative or staff at a licensed wholesale drug or device distributor Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working directly with patients (e.g., home medical equipment, DME, pharmacy, clinical, or healthcare customer service settings). Existing valid California HMDR Exemptee license. Familiarity with prescription home medical devices. Experience in a regulated healthcare or medical device environment. Schedule & Location This is a part-time, hybrid position based in Carlsbad, CA . Some duties may be performed remotely, but the Exemptee responsibilities require regular on-site presence during hours when prescription devices are dispensed. Evening shift availability may be required. Specific hours will be set in coordination with the manager. Pay:
$28.00 - $38.00 per hour
