Job Description

Provides customer service and laboratory-related communication regarding specimen submission and reporting of results to healthcare providers that use the UVA Medical Laboratories. Job Description Communicates patient results clearly accurately and effectively to laboratory clients. Serves as a resource to clients regarding test requirements specimen submission and other laboratory policies and procedures. Serves as a dispatch service for lab couriers. Serves as trainer and role model for new staff. Performs area-specific support activities. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School Graduate or Equivalent; or Medical Laboratory Assistant Career Study Certificate (CSC) or an official letter from the College stating MLA course work has been completed. Must meet Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act & Amendment (CLIA) education requirements for complexity of testing performed
Experience:
High School Graduate or Equivalent - 2 years of relevant experience; or Medical Laboratory Assistant Career Study Certificate (CSC) - no experience required.
License/Certification:
MLA(ASCP) within 12 months of hire
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
: Job requires sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequently, bending/stooping and repetitive motion: extension & flexion at wrist. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The starting base rate for this role is $17.25 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
