Job Description

The International Mission Board —a nonprofit sending organization of the Southern Baptist Convention headquartered in Richmond, VA—is seeking compassionate, experienced counselors to join our team as a Member Care Consultant. In this meaningful role, you will play a vital part in preparing missionaries for service by supporting their emotional wellness, readiness, and resilience. As a Member Care Consultant, you will walk alongside missionary candidates from application through deployment, ensuring they are spiritually, emotionally, and relationally equipped for the journey ahead.
Responsibilities:
Assess and advocate for candidate wellness by reviewing applications, identifying potential mental health concerns, and utilizing validated screening tools Provide compassionate guidance and counseling support throughout the application and deployment process Partner closely with multidisciplinary teams, including Global Deployment and Global Member Care, to evaluate candidate readiness and address concerns Coordinate follow-up care, including referrals for additional assessments or counseling when needed Ensure continuity of care by maintaining consistent support and communication with candidates Contribute to a culture of care by participating in case consultations, team meetings, and delivering training or seminars as needed Requirements Master's degree in psychology and/or Counseling 3+ years of previous counseling experience with case management and supervision Previous experience with clinical assessment, dealing with a broad range of clients Ability to commute to Rockville, VA on a regular basis (we can provide relocation support if needed) Strong presentation skills for training and public speaking Strong knowledge of HIPPA and experience working with confidential medical and counseling materials
