Customs Brokerage Operations Associate /Entry Writer Location:
Jamaica, NY (Near JFK Airport) Lynbrook, NY Our office is conveniently located on Guy R. Brewer Blvd., one block from a major cross street with accessible bus service. Street parking is available. To ensure a reasonable commute, we prefer applicants who live within 25 minutes of our location via public transportation or car. Our office location will be moving to Nassau County within 1-2 years, and so this should factor into the viability of employment.Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized professional with strong customer support skills (via phone and email) for a full-time position in our customs brokerage team.Preferred Qualifications:
Office experience is required, as this role involves direct interaction with customers and colleagues. Customs brokerage experience is optional. While we are willing to train the right candidate with industry specific information, a core set of skills is beneficial. Freight/cargo industry knowledge is not required, but is beneficial. Touch typing proficiency (minimum 45 WPM ; a typing test will be required). High school diploma required ; college education is a plus but not mandatory. Strong math skills (ability to work with basic units of measure, conversion rates, and calculations). Attention to detail is essential. Excellent organizational and communication skills —you will maintain and present files for audits when necessary. Strong ability to learn and retain industry-specific knowledge is required. We will provide industry specific training, but a basic understanding of a customs broker's office environment, data entry, and math is essential.Key Responsibilities:
Prepare U.S. Customs entries for a variety of imports, including RLF entries and FDA-related filings . Process Fish & Wildlife (FWS) entries . Submit electronic and physical documentation to U.S. Customs, FDA, FWS, USDA, NOAA , and other agencies. Handle export documentation , including AES filings through the ACE Portal . Classify shipments using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) . Assist brokers and clerks with paperwork. Distribute required documents to importers, maintain record-keeping for compliance, and prepare invoices. Support daily billing, invoicing, and basic accounting tasks (separate from bookkeeping duties). Utilize the Automated Broker Interface (ABI) system . Maintain professional communication via phone and email . Second (or third!) languages are always a plus but not required. Work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.Start Date:
