Position Title:
DAEP/ISS/Behavior Intervention & Attendance Support Teacher
Primary Purpose:
Provide academic instruction, behavioral intervention, attendance support, and social-emotional services to students assigned to the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) and/or In-School Suspension (ISS), as well as identified at-risk students. The position is designed to improve student behavior, increase attendance, support academic success, and facilitate successful reintegration into the traditional classroom setting.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Valid Texas Teaching Certificate ESL certification (preferred) Special Education certification (preferred but not required)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong classroom management and de-escalation techniques Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies (PBIS, Restorative Practices, Trauma-Informed Care) Understanding of truancy prevention strategies and attendance laws Ability to build positive relationships with at-risk students and families Experience with conflict resolution and behavior coaching Knowledge of TEKS and differentiated instruction Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and community partners
Experience:
Experience working with at-risk or behaviorally challenged students preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support:
Provide direct instruction aligned to TEKS for students assigned to
DAEP/ISS
Support students in completing assignments from their home campus Differentiate instruction to meet individual academic needs Monitor and document student academic progress
Behavior Intervention:
Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and support IEP/504 accommodations Teach and reinforce appropriate behaviors, coping skills, and decision-making strategies Facilitate restorative practices, reflection activities, and conflict resolution Conduct individual and group behavior coaching sessions Maintain a structured, safe, and orderly learning environment
Attendance Intervention & Support:
Monitor and track attendance for
DAEP/ISS
students and identified at-risk students Identify barriers to attendance and conduct student check-ins to address concerns Communicate with parents/guardians regarding attendance expectations and concerns Collaborate with campus administration and attendance personnel to address truancy Assist in developing and implementing attendance improvement plans Participate in attendance committees, MTSS/RTI meetings, and truancy prevention efforts Maintain accurate documentation of attendance interventions and communications
Program Management:
Enforce district and campus discipline policies consistently Supervise students throughout the school day, including transitions and breaks Maintain accurate records of attendance, behavior, and academic progress Ensure a highly structured environment that promotes student accountability and growth
Collaboration:
Communicate regularly with administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff Participate in ARD, 504, MTSS, and behavior-related meetings as needed Partner with parents/guardians to support student success
Compliance & Documentation:
Maintain documentation required for DAEP placement, attendance, and student services Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district policies, including special programs and student discipline procedures Assist in preparing reports related to student progress, behavior, and attendance
Student Reintegration:
Support transition planning for students returning to the regular classroom Provide feedback and recommendations to campus staff Monitor and support student success post-placement when applicable

May supervise paraprofessionals assigned to
DAEP/ISS
