As we continue to grow our operation and build out our processing facility, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Herd Manager to oversee daily herd operations and play a key role in the future of our farm. This is a leadership position for someone passionate about dairy cattle, herd health, and animal care—particularly with experience in raising and managing elite genetics and dairy show animals . Position Overview The Herd Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a 25-cow dairy herd milked in a single 4-parlor system , ensuring animal health, production efficiency, and overall herd performance. This individual will work side by side with ownership and will be trusted to take ownership of herd-related decisions and operations. Key Responsibilities Oversee and perform twice-daily milking (single 4-parlor system) Manage all aspects of herd care, including: Feeding and nutrition Utilization and management of the CowManager herd management system Heat detection, breeding, and reproduction management Herd health monitoring, treatments, and coordination with veterinarians Calf and heifer raising programs Maintain accurate records for herd health, production, and treatments Lead the development, care, and preparation of dairy show cattle Travel with and manage show animals at exhibitions and events across the country Maintain cleanliness and organization of barns, milking areas, and equipment Identify opportunities to improve herd performance, efficiency, and animal welfare Assist with general farm operations as needed to include but not limited to maintaining farm ground, hay production and general farm upkeep. Qualifications Proven experience working with dairy cattle required Experience with dairy show animals strongly preferred Strong knowledge of herd health, nutrition, and reproduction practices Ability to work independently and take initiative in a leadership role Willingness and ability to travel for livestock shows Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills Ability to perform physical labor and work in varying weather conditions Valid driver's license required Schedule Schedule is negotiable based on experience and operational needs Includes early mornings, evenings, and weekend responsibilities typical of dairy operations Travel required for livestock shows Compensation & Benefits Pay is competitive and based on experience Housing provided or housing stipend available Paid Time Off (PTO) Travel expenses covered for livestock shows Opportunity to grow with a rapidly expanding dairy operation Option to relocate with your own small string of cattle to integrate on the farm About Hoegger Family Farms Hoegger Family Farms is a family-owned, fourth-generation dairy committed to producing high-quality dairy products while connecting our community to where their food comes from.
