Job Description
Introduction The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) works hard to protect and promote Wisconsin's agricultural industries and consumers. DATCP currently has an opening for a Dairy Sanitarian position within the Division of Food and Recreational Safety, Bureau of Food and Recreational Businesses. We will be filling this position at the Entry or Senior level depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. This is a field-based position and will be assigned a fleet vehicle for work-related travel. The selected applicant can select a headquarter in one of the following counties: Fond Du Lac or Washington County Qualifying candidates are not required to live in a county headquarter location. However, reimbursement for commuting to or from the employee's assigned headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). Routine travel within an assigned territory and throughout the state for assigned work and emergency response is required. Position Summary Employees are responsible for: On-site evaluation, inspection, and documentation of sanitary conditions and durability of facilities, equipment, and/or product; application of codes and statutes; providing technical consultation and educational services to industry representatives, business owners/operators, agents, local and state officials, the general public, etc. Based upon evaluation and/or inspection findings staff are responsible to prepare reports and take or recommend enforcement action as outlined in applicable codes and statutes. This includes the ability to issue, deny, or in some instances issue summary closure orders when an imminent health threat is found. Examples of the various facilities is summarized below: Food businesses include: milk distributors, wholesale food processing plants, and food warehouses Dairy businesses include: Grade A and B dairy plants and farms, bulk milk tankers, and bulk milk weigher and samplers.Municipal and/or private systems include:
Establishments subject to Wisconsin licensure; private water supply or sewage disposal systems; review municipal or well water supply safety. Employees will coordinate with necessary supervisors, technical specialists, epidemiologists, and other state and federal agencies to investigate consumer complaints, food or recreational emergencies, and food or waterborne illness outbreaks. Full Position Description - Entry Full Position Description - Senior Salary Information The entry level is in schedule-range 15-04 with a starting pay of $31.00-32.50 per hour. The senior level is in schedule-range 15-03 with a starting pay of $32.57-35.83. A $0.30 per hour Registered Sanitarian (RS) or NEHA REHS/Registered Sanitarian (RS) add-on may be available depending on qualifications. This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan. Job Details At DATCP, we strive to deliver efficient and effective programs and services to Wisconsin agriculture, consumers, and businesses. The Department has numerous on-the-job training (OJT) opportunities, unique to each Bureau. These OJT opportunities include direct experience and practice through job shadowing, field inspection training, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) training courses (virtual and in-person), and job-specific training modules.Conditions of Employment:
DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicant being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States. A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicant prior to an offer of employment. Possess a valid driver's license or the ability to provide one's own transportation for work purposes. Travel is required for approximately 90% of this position's duties. Must possess physical abilities to climb and work at elevated heights such as on catwalks. Must have ability to; stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 lbs. Through use of sight and hearing must be able observe physical surroundings. Must have the ability to complete outdoor job activities 12 months of the year. The employee will encounter inclement weather and extreme temperatures.
