Dairy Technician Lead

Elberta Valley Ag is seeking reliable and intuitive Dairy Technician Lead to join our local farm team!

Summary:

Dairy Technicianss are responsible for raising quality heifers at an economical price.

Responsibilities:

Lead the Calf Team Employees. Manage the food process which includes pasteurizing and feeding the calves milk, teaching calves to drink, and eventually feeding them water and grain. Identify and treat sick calves. Help with vaccinating the animals. Assist with branding and dehorning. Treat animals using proper animal welfare and handling techniques. Safely and accurately move animals to the assigned location. Ensure areas are clean and dry through adherence to the defined maintenance standards. Clean and maintain equipment. Report maintenance or equipment issues to supervisor and record issue. Anticipate and take action to weather changes per protocols. Identify and report unsafe conditions and behavior to the supervisor or safety committee. Help other departments when needed and cover other team member days. Champion the company safety guidelines to keep self and team members safe at work. Attend required training and meetings to keep current on updated procedures and regulations.

Qualifications:

Previous calf/cow handling experience. Must be able to demonstrate the proper way to handle animals. High school diploma, GED or equivalent. Supervisory or management experience a plus. Competent computer skills, experience with DHI Plus and AFI programs preferred. Team-oriented, solid communication skills with keen attention to detail. Bilingual Spanish strongly desired.

Other Information:

Regular lifting up to ~50 lbs; prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, crouching, climbing, and kneeling; frequent hand use for tools and animal handling; sufficient vision and hearing to monitor livestock health; regular physical exertion. Primarily outdoor ranch environments; exposure to all weather conditions; uneven terrain; dust, dander, manure; variable noise; frequent interaction with large animals and equipment; variable hours including early mornings, weekends, and holidays; PPE required as applicable.
