Seasonal (May-August) Overview Surf Camp, Inc. is hiring energetic, responsible, and ocean-passionate Camp Counselors/Surf Instructors to join our Guppy/Grom Full Day Camp team. In this role, you will work with children ages 6-11, teaching surfing, ocean safety, and marine science while creating an engaging and memorable summer experience. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, thrive in an outdoor environment, and are passionate about environmental education. You will play a key role in helping campers build confidence, develop skills, and foster a lifelong respect for the ocean. ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Program Delivery Teach ocean safety, wave dynamics, surf etiquette, rip currents, and marine science concepts Lead hands-on educational activities Instruct and supervise campers during in-water surf sessions Safety & Camper Care The team will maintain active supervision of up to 16 campers at all times Enforce safety protocols during all activities, both in and out of the water Provide mentorship, guidance, and behavior support in a positive, inclusive environment Communicate professionally with parents/guardians regarding camper needs Safely transport campers using 15-passenger vans in accordance with safety guidelines Operations & Logistics Assist with daily setup and breakdown of camp equipment and materials Maintain inventory and ensure all equipment is safe, organized, and ready for use Team Collaboration Work closely with staff and leadership to deliver high-quality programming Contribute to a positive, professional, and high-energy team environment QualificationsRequired Must be at least 21 years old Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Education, Recreation, or a related field Surfing experience required Ability to pass a 500-yard open-ocean swim test Current Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications (valid by the start of training) Ability to lift 50 pounds and work long, physically active days outdoors Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills Clean driving record and ability to pass a background check Full availability from May through August with no conflicting commitments Preferred Master's degree (completed or in progress) in a related field Wilderness First Responder certification or higher Familiarity with southeastern marine ecosystems Previous camp or youth leadership experience Environmental education certification or teaching credential Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment Compensation & Benefits Competitive pay based on experience; summer stipends start at $6,600 for a 12-week commitment Access to pro-deals for outdoor gear and equipment Hands-on experience in marine science education and surf instruction Opportunity to work in a dynamic, team-oriented outdoor environment Meaningful impact through youth development and environmental education Schedule & Commitment Season runs from May through August Mandatory staff training takes place in late May (specific dates provided during hiring process) Programs run Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM Staff hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM About Surf Camp, Inc.
