Job Description

Category Schools - Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact in education as an American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher supporting young learners for the 2026-2027 academic year. This rewarding, contract-based opportunity offers a chance to provide specialized instruction as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist for an elementary school student. Based near Tutwiler, MS, you'll be working part-time (10 hours weekly), with the potential to grow into a full-time role as the ASL program expands. You'll play a vital role in shaping an inclusive environment and helping students discover the power of communication.
Desired Skills & Experience:
Valid certification or teaching credentials to instruct Deaf/Hard of Hearing students or ASL Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a passion for Deaf education Previous experience working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing children is highly valued Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with educators, families, and support staff Adaptability to tailor lessons for individual student needs
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging ASL instruction to an elementary-level student in a one-on-one or small-group setting Develop individualized lesson plans focused on language development, communication skills, and social-emotional growth Foster an inclusive classroom culture, supporting accessibility and academic success Assess student progress and communicate regularly with parents and interdisciplinary team members Contribute to the growth and development of the ASL program as additional students enroll If you want to empower the next generation through language, culture, and innovation, this position is perfect for you.
