Ideal candidates possess:
Proficiency in American Sign Language, with a strong foundation in interpreting for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students. Previous experience as a teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, or ASL instructor is highly valued. Ability to adapt communication styles to match individual student needs. Understanding of the classroom environment and experience working within schools, supporting both students and teachers. Knowledge of best practices in supporting students who utilize a range of communication modalities. Excellent interpersonal skills for collaborating with school staff, students, and families.
Key responsibilities include:
Interpreting classroom lessons, activities, and discussions in ASL, ensuring seamless communication access for students. Working alongside teachers to modify or clarify instructional materials when necessary. Supporting student participation in both academic and extracurricular activities. Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. Providing feedback to instructional staff regarding student communication strategies and needs. Participating in relevant staff meetings or professional development opportunities.
