The High School Dean of Students supports the building principal in maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment by assisting with student behavior, attendance, and school climate. This position works collaboratively with students, staff, and families to reinforce consistent expectations, support positive behavior, and promote student success. The Dean of Students assists in implementing student discipline, attendance interventions, and school-wide behavior systems in alignment with Board policies, the student handbook, and district goals.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential functions are the core responsibilities required to successfully perform this role. These duties support student well-being, promote a positive school climate, and ensure consistent implementation of district policies and procedures. The Dean of Students is also responsible for other duties as assigned, consistent with the role and applicable collective bargaining agreement. Student Behavior and Discipline Assist in implementing the student code of conduct in accordance with Board policy and the student handbook Investigate student behavior concerns and support appropriate interventions and consequences Maintain accurate and confidential discipline records Support PBIS, MTSS, restorative practices, and other positive behavior strategies Assist with in-school behavioral supports, including detention and in-school suspension School Climate and Supervision Support a safe, orderly, and respectful school environment Supervise students during non-instructional times, including arrival, dismissal, passing time, and lunch Assist with safety procedures, drills, and incident response Respond to and assist in de-escalating student conflicts Attendance and Accountability Monitor student attendance and identify concerns Assist with attendance interventions and truancy follow-up Communicate with students and families regarding attendance Student and Family Engagement Conduct conferences with students and families regarding behavior and attendance Serve as a liaison between school, families, and community resources Support student engagement and connection to school Collaboration and Staff Support Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and staff to support student needs Participate in student support teams (e.g., MTSS, behavior, intervention) Support staff with behavior management strategies, as appropriate Data, Reporting, and Compliance Maintain and review discipline and attendance data Assist with required reporting and documentation Maintain confidentiality in accordance with district policy and law Operational Support Assist with daily building operations related to student management Support supervision of school activities and events Perform other duties as assigned by the principalKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field (Master's degree preferred) Valid Michigan teaching or administrative certification Minimum of three years of experience working in an educational setting, preferably at the high school level. Strong understanding of child development, behavior management, and restorative practices.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
