NE03 Position Summary This position is responsible for performing duties related to the operations of the Support Services Department. An incumbent in this position may be designated "Senior Delivery Services Clerk" if assigned supervisory duties over other workers.
MAJOR DUTIES
Receives and delivers mail and packages for San Juan College departments. Sorts and processes incoming and outgoing mail and packages. Ships freight for college departments. Weighs mail and packages and determines cost of shipping. Processes registered, certified and trackable mail and packages. Provides information to customers concerning postal and shipping rules and regulations. Operates postage meter, package tracking device, and related equipment. Forwards and/or returns mail for inactive faculty, staff and students. Operates state vehicles and golf carts to pick up and deliver mail and packages. Operates fork lift to move large or heavy equipment and shipment pallets, incoming or outgoing items. Maintains, fuels and cleans vehicles in the motor pool. Prepares and processes vehicle paperwork; prepares vehicle use reports. Assists with proper disposal of surplus equipment. Collects and sorts recycling. Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of postal, shipping, and receiving policies and procedures. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge of college policies and procedures. Knowledge and skill of basic vehicle operation and maintenance. Knowledge of the college's vehicle use policies. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skill and ability in the operation of a forklift. Skill and ability to operate postage meters, package delivery tracking system Skill and ability to operate computers, printers, copy machines and cash register Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Auxiliary Services Director assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. Daily reports are provided to the supervisor for some functions.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include UPS and FedEx policies and procedures, motor pool policies, mailroom and college policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related shipping and receiving, customer service, motor pool and mailroom duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to assist as needed in the Auxiliary Services Department subunits: Shipping and Receiving, the College Motor Pool, and the College Mail Room. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college employees, students, postal workers, representatives of private shipping companies, USPS Workers and the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects and distinguishes between shades of color. The work is typically performed in a mail room, loading dock area, motor pool and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED is required. Associates Degree preferred. Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent is required. Two years of related work experience in a similar position is required. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico for the type of vehicle or equipment operated is required. Clean Driving record is required.
