Job Description
Duties :
The fundamental responsibility of a Deputy Fire Marshal is to function in Fire Inspections, Fire Investigations, and as a Public Education Coordinator. Investigates and gathers facts to determine cause of fires and explosions, and enforces fire laws. Inspects buildings and equipment to detect fire hazards and enforce local ordinances and state laws. Assist in the development, coordination, planning, implementation, and presentation of fire safety educational training programs in schools and other project locations regarding educating the public. Conduct fire and life safety inspections of local businesses, public buildings, and state licensed facilities. Investigate complaints regarding hazardous conditions and fire code violations. Investigate cause and origin of fires. Investigates reported burn injuries. Interview victims, witnesses and suspects. Collect evidence and prepare documentation for civil and criminal courts. Arrest arson suspects and testify in court. Represent the City at various functions and programs, which include civic associations and civic organization presentations, local business employee workshops and other community events. Present fire education programs to businesses, various groups, and public/private schools. Teach, organize, and prepare materials to be taught and adapt teaching methods to the appropriate age level and needs of the audience. Coordinate the participation of volunteer firefighters with fire prevention programs and activities, including the Pasadena Fire Safety House. Assist in the development, implementation, and delivery of educational programs and demonstrations. Provide classroom instruction for fire cause and origin, and fire/life safety hazards. Prepare displays and exhibits relating to fire prevention and fire safety; dispense fire safety pamphlets and handouts. Attend seminars, conferences, and classes to upgrade knowledge of fire prevention practices and to obtain ideas for improving and developing new educational programs.Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. Minimum of two (2) years fire service or related experience. Texas Commission on Fire Protection Fire Inspector certification. Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer (TCOLE) Basic Peace Officer certification. U.S. Citizenship required to obtain (TCOLE) certification. Texas Commission on Fire Protection Fire Investigator certification must be obtained within two years of employment. Texas Commission on Fire Protection Arson Investigation license must be obtained within two years of employment. Texas Commission on Fire Prevention Fire Education Specialist Certification or State Firemen's and Fire Marshals Association Fire Prevention Specialist Certification must be obtained within two years of employment. Must demonstrate satisfactory proficiency of assigned equipment. Must demonstrate ability to exercise safe and sound independent judgment and problem-solving skills. Must demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of fire prevention, arson investigation, fire inspections, and City ordinances. Must demonstrate satisfactory resource management. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.PREFERRED
Experience with public speaking and/or presentation of fire prevention programs or higher education coursework in public speaking and/or technical communications. NFPA Plan Review certification. The City of Pasadena offers very generous benefits to all full-time employees .For example:

. The City offers college tuition reimbursement of up to $3,500 per year. As an employee, you will contribute a portion of your salary each pay-period towards your retirement and the City will match your contribution by 200% . Example, if you contribute $100, the City will contribute $200. Civilian employees accumulate vacation at the following rates: Less than 6 years of service- two weeks of vacation per year. From 6 to less than 11 years of service
- three weeks of vacation per year. From 11 to less than 21 years of service
- four weeks of vacation per year. From 21 to less than 26 years of service
- five weeks of vacation per year. From 26 years of service and up
- six weeks of vacation per year.
