Music Education Teaching Artist Position Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable Music Educator & Choir Support Teacher to join our team and support music programming in Merced County schools. This educator will work collaboratively with fellow CREATE teaching artists to deliver engaging 30-minute music fundamentals lessons using a provided curriculum, while also assisting Program Leads with after-school choir rehearsals and performances. This role is ideal for someone who loves working with children, understands the foundations of music education, and thrives in a collaborative, high-energy environment. Teaching Artists will rotate between leading and supporting instruction, working as a teaching team to create engaging, student-centered musical experiences. Key Responsibilities Classroom Music Instruction Collaborate with fellow teaching artists to deliver 30-minute music fundamentals lessons using a provided curriculum. Alternate between leading instructional activities and supporting fellow educators throughout lessons. Lead students through singing, rhythm activities, movement, music literacy exercises, and interactive learning experiences. Support classroom management, transitions, and student engagement during lessons led by fellow educators. Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and musical growth. Implement positive behavior management strategies and effective redirection techniques. Adapt instruction as needed to support diverse learners. Choir Program Support Assist Program Leads during after-school choir rehearsals and performances. Support student learning of vocal music, choreography, and performance skills. Help manage rehearsal flow, attendance, transitions, and student engagement. Sing alongside students and model active participation and positive rehearsal habits. Provide individual and small-group support to students as needed. Assist with performance preparation, special events, and concert logistics. Team Collaboration Collaborate professionally with classroom teachers, Program Leads, and the CREATE team. Work closely with fellow teaching artists to ensure consistent, high-quality instruction across all program sites. Represent CREATE positively and professionally within partner schools and the community. Communicate effectively regarding student needs, program successes, and areas requiring support. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program planning as requested. Required Qualifications Experience working with children in K-8 educational settings. Strong understanding of basic music fundamentals. Prior teaching, instructional, or youth arts experience (school, camp, choir, theater, or similar setting). Comfortable leading singing, rhythm, and movement activities with groups of children. Skilled in positive behavior management, redirection, and classroom engagement. Strong communication skills, professionalism, and reliability. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team. Ability to work independently as an Independent Contractor representing our organization in public school settings. Preferred Qualifications Skilled in working with students of different learning styles, needs, and abilities , including students with special needs. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus. Contract Details Independent contractor role; compensated per hour. Contract hours will vary based on school scheduling. Must pass district onboarding requirements (fingerprinting, etc.). Training provided.
