Creative Writing Master of Fine Arts Full Job Description Job Summary:
CSMA is seeking a passionate, experienced Creative Writing Faculty member to lead engaging classes for adult professionals at varying skill levels in a corporate setting. The ideal candidate has a strong background in the literary arts and a commitment to nurturing the unique voices of adult learners.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and teach creative writing classes for adults (beginner to intermediate levels) Develop a curriculum covering genres such as fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and/or memoir Design engaging writing prompts, exercises, and workshops to inspire creativity Provide constructive, thoughtful feedback on student writing Foster a respectful and inclusive workshop environment that encourages sharing and collaboration Adapt instruction to accommodate diverse skill levels and learning styles Maintain consistent communication with the Program Manager regarding class progress and needs Support optional readings, showcases, or publication opportunities for students Skills/Qualifications/Experience Demonstrated experience teaching creative writing to adult learners Strong portfolio of written work (published or unpublished) Background in literature, creative writing, or related field (MFA or equivalent experience preferred) Excellent communication and facilitation skills Experience working with diverse populations; bilingual abilities are a plus Excellent organizational skills Competent computer skills and familiarity with video conferencing software, Zoom, Google Workspace, and MS Office. A reliable form of transportation to get to and from the assigned client site/sites and occasional trips to the Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View, CA. Physical Demands The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Benefits Include:
All faculty have access to a 403(B) retirement plan. Paid Sick Leave accrual. Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available for faculty who teach 20 hours or more a week. All supplies and equipment are provided by the school. Employee and Family discount on private lessons and classes
Schedule:
Teaching opportunities are mainly during weekdays between 12:00 and 8:00 pm
