POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Eliot School Artist in Residence program engages a Boston-based artist each year to work closely with a cohort of 10-12 art-passionate high school students from our Teen Bridge Program, to produce a body of public art with thoughtfulmunity engagement at its core. Teen Bridge is a year-round, multi-year programbining art education and experience, life skills, mentorship, job training, and employment for student artists in ourmunity-based programs. This summer Teen Bridge students will work with our Artist in Residence Corey Watanabe, a multi-disciplinary artist with a background in landscape architecture. Over the course of his residency, Watanabe will introduce students to tactile media, including cyanotype, botanical ing, natural dyes, and sensory charcoal—materials that speak directly to the ephemerality of the landscape. This journey will culminate in the creation of a large-scale "Resonance Tapestry," a collaborative quilt that weaves together the interconnected themes found among each student's "Garden of Resonance." We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Youth Art Assistant to support the Artists in Residence. This role involves supporting teens during art activities and through mentorship, as well as creating a nurturing environment w teens can thrive artistically and personally. The position offers opportunities for professional development and growth within the artsmunity. Additionally, the Youth Art Assistant will be able to practice mentoring teens and assisting with visual arts activities in an educational context.
The schedule is as follows:
Monday-Friday, 9:30am-3:30pm, June 22 - August 28, 2026 (potential for extended part time afterschool hours during October 2026 - May 2027). . .
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support with photographing and documenting the 7-week summer intensive in the art classroom and duringmunity field trips
  • Assisting with set up and clean up
  • Assist in providing visual arts feedback to teens, focusing on skill development and artistic exploration
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to students
  • Engage with students' diverse backgrounds and experiences, promoting an inclusive environment
  • Attend program meetings and training sessions as required
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Full-time Boston Resident
  • Ages 19-24
  • Photography/video experience
  •  Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and reliably
  •  Creative and resourceful
  • Positive, solutions-oriented mindset
  • Enjoys making art; has some experience with or is interested in learning woodworking.
  • Enjoys working with teens and providing supportive feedback.
  • Amitment to fostering an inclusive and joyful environment for all students.
  • Lived experience with diverse Boston neighborhoods is highly desirable
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus The employee is regularly required to perform the following with or without reasonable amodation:
  • Climb 1 to 2 flights of stairs
  • Walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time on uneven terrain such as the Eliot Schoolyard
  • Frequently bend, lean, and kneel
  • Lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds Environmental factors include:
