DIY Staff Part-Time Maryland Science Center - 3.9 Baltimore, MD Job Details Part-time $15.50 an hour 18 hours ago Qualifications Customer communication Full Job Description DIY Staff - Part-Time Do you like to make things? Do you like working with children and sharing new skills with them? Support guests as they learn through tinkering. Responsibilities include facilitating Do-It-Yourself activities with an emphasis on creativity and experimentation. Prior experience with art, printmaking, basic power tools, or sewing is welcome, but you will also be able to learn skills on the job to help run a wide spectrum of activities. Prior experience in customer service and interaction with school-age children is highly desired.
Availability:
9:45-5:00 three days a week (Tuesday - Sunday), including at least one weekend day, is required
Basic Functions:
Facilitate visitor experience in MAKE (our makerspace) Model developmentally appropriate behavior with children Assist in planning and implementation of all types of programming for various audiences Assist in maintenance and cleaning of MAKE supplies and equipment Attend training as directed by supervisor
Education:
A background or interest in making, science, teaching, fine arts or other related field is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
General behaviors and abilities of children Appropriate language and actions for interactions with children
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal communication Stamina Patience Ability to: Speak and feel comfortable in front of and directly to children individually and in groups, as well as, with adult visitors Convey guest services information Provide tailored directions based on visitor needs Remain composed in all situations Take initiative Safely utilize tools
Basic Requirements:
Must be able to pass a background check. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

None General supervision provided by the MAKE Manager This employee normally performs some of the work of a higher-level position in the process of gaining knowledge and experience necessary for advancement and may also perform some of the work of a lower-rated position when required. Normal duties and responsibilities include assistance to other employees.
