Communications Coach / Presentation Director UP Robotics Bethesda, MD Job Details Part-time | Contract $30
  • $35 an hour 5 hours ago Qualifications Research Working with high schoolers Working with children Working with middle schoolers Theater Full Job Description About UP Robotics UP Robotics is a youth robotics enrichment program in Bethesda, MD serving 130+ students in grades K-12.
Our competitive teams —
FLL, VEX
IQ, and FTC — don't just build robots. They research real-world problems, develop original solutions, and present their work to panels of judges. We're looking for someone to help them do that brilliantly. The Role We're hiring a seasonal Communications Coach to work with our competitive robotics teams from October through mid-December. Your job is to help 8-12-year-olds present their ideas like entrepreneurs — think Shark Tank, not science fair. For our FLL and VEX IQ teams, you'll be involved from the beginning: facilitating brainstorming sessions, helping teams develop and refine their innovation ideas, guiding poster creation, writing scripts, and coaching them through rehearsals — including props, costumes, and stage presence if needed. For our FTC teams (high schoolers), you'll provide lighter-touch coaching focused on rehearsal and presentation polish. This is not a robotics job. You don't need to know anything about robots. You need to know how to help kids find their voice, tell a compelling story, and own a room. What You'll Do
  • Guide FLL teams (6) through the full Innovation Project arc — from idea to polished presentation
  • Coach VEX IQ teams (3) on articulating their engineering process and preparing for judge Q&A
  • Help FTC teams (2) refine and rehearse their engineering presentations
  • Develop scripts, talking points, visual aids, and presentation materials with students
  • Run engaging, age-appropriate rehearsal sessions that build confidence Ideal Background
  • Debate, forensics, or competitive speech coaching
  • Theater, improv, or performing arts education
  • Public speaking, communications, or journalism
  • Corporate training, pitch coaching, or entrepreneurship education Experience working with middle school-age students strongly preferred.
Schedule & Commitment October through mid-December 2026 (~10-12 hours/week) Flexible scheduling around our team meeting times (afternoons/evenings, some weekends) Located at UP Robotics, 7801 Woodmont Ave, Bethesda, MD Compensation $30-35/hour, paid as an independent contractor To Apply Send a brief note about your background and why this role interests you to .
