General Function The Artist-in-Residence is a non-tenure track faculty position appointed on the basis of outstanding professional attainments, creative accomplishments, and recognition in his or her specific field and renders specified service to the University including lectures, performances, demonstrations, master classes, and consultations.
Description of Primary Duties Teach classes in the dance area, including classes for both dance majors and msuical theatre majors. Ability to teach jazz, tap, Musical Theatre styles, composition, and other areas of the candidate's expertise. Hip hop and other contemporary styles welcome. Opportunity to choreograph for dance concerts and mainstage musical theatre productions.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Artist-in-Residence are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.
Additional Qualifications Required qualifications: Terminal degree which may include MFA (60 credit hours) or Ph.D. Other candidates may be considered with significant, high-level professional experience. Two years teaching in studio or the university classroom.
In addition to technique classes, the candidate may also teach classes in research methods, dance composition, andor other courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
Dance faculty members choreographdirect for the department's main stage Fall Dance Concert and Spring Dance Concert. T are also opportunities to choreograph and direct musical theatre productions. All ranked faculty are expected to help with recruitment, advise students, and serve on departmental, college, andor university committees as available.
Additional Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years of teaching experience andor significant professional experience, with the ability to teach at least three of the following technique styles: Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Musical Theater Dance Styles, or other CulturalNon-Western dance forms.
