Who We Are:
Rio Grande Academy of Fine Arts (RioGAFA) is a new free, public charter school that educates students through an arts-integration curriculum that promotes critical and creative thinking and supports all K-12 students in achieving grade-level standards. Located in Albuquerque's South Valley, we are currently offering grades K-2 and 6-7, with the goal of adding two grade levels yearly until we are K-12. What You'll Do:
As a RioGAFA teaching artist you are responsible for creating a fun and nurturing learning environment that engages students in creative activities appropriate for their developmental ages. You'll be responsible for planning and implementing lesson plans, teaching, focusing on the creative process, developing skills and building community. In this role you live out RioGAFA's mission of building life skills through quality arts education, ensuring accessibility and inclusion for ALL students.
Specific responsibilities shall include:
Share your passion for the arts with students. Plan and implement carefully planned lesson plans to a class of students. Develop at least one culminating project or performance. Develop relationships with students and teachers. Receive mentorship, coaching, and professional development from school leadership with a growth mindset. Organization, maintenance and care of all art making tools, materials and supplies and the spaces in which they are stored. Implement positive classroom management techniques and establish routines and procedures. Follow all RioGAFA rules and procedures. Maintain a high level of ethical and professional standards as expected of all personnel. Submit a 9-10 week scope of sequence for each 9-10 week Quarter teaching. Communicate with Director of Instruction supplies needed in advance and be flexible with supplies and materials. Submit invoices to the Directors on the 15th and 30th of each month for hours worked.
Qualifications:
Experience in your artistry Able to clear a New Mexico background check Able to work for at least 1 school quarter. 1st Quarter begins August 7th, 2nd Quarter begins October 16th, 3rd Quarter begins January 9th, 4th Quarter begins March 18th Self-motivated and organized Strong communication skills Desirable, but not required: Formal or informal experience working with children
