DESCRIPTION The Play Group Theatre (PGT), a Westchester based non-profit educational theatreanization dedicated to providing diverse theatre making experiences and performance opportunities to children and teenagers, is seeking a Music Director/Composer for our uing summer program. Camp PGT is a daytime theatre intensive program, which includes multi-discipline sessions in July, and takes place in PGT's state-of-the-art facility in White Plains, NY, easily accessible by Metro North or car. We are seeking Teaching Artists who possess imagination, flexibility and the desire to work with children and teenagers of varied ages in a creatively charged and artistically demanding, yet nurturing environment. Our teachers must be prepared to work as a member of a strong creative team, and to help our students achieve quality performances, while still giving focus to the artistic process. The ideal candidate holds a
BFA/BA/BM
(/MFA/MA/M.Mus preferred) and can teach a variety of ages in various contexts. Our programs include Little Theatre (ages 4-6) through Teen Conservatory (ages 13-17) and programs such as Sketch Comedy, On Camera, Playwriting and more for ages 7-17. The focus of several Camp PGT programs is on the development of new works;posing experience and/or experiencing working with students on originalpositions is a plus. Each summer program includes a final showcase of the students' work. We seek Teaching Artists who have experience in an educational theatre setting in which they have successfully balanced a sound creative process with a quality product. Responsibilities include: Leading students through the process ofposing a one act musical; Teaching and rehearsing all musical numbers; Collaborating with the director and the rest of the production team; Playing piano for all rehearsals and performances; Collaborating with the teaching team on the camp-wide musical theatre curriculum. Applicants should possess: Minimum 3-5 years teaching and/or music directing experience excellent time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects at once a desire to practice collaboration grace and a sense of humor under pressure a sense of playfulness balanced with a fierce work ethic the qualities necessary to be a positive role model for children and teenagers the ability to the "yes AND" rule of improv to the workplace experience being bombarded with children and all their stuff and a good deal of noise, and thrive in that setting Camp PGT includes daily classes and rehearsals, with showcases, performances, visiting artists, and several camp-wide creative activities throughout the summer. The full camp season is a five weekmitment, including one staff week and four weeks of camp. Camp is held Mon-Fri, 8am-4pm at The Play Group Theatre's facility in downtown White Plains, NY.
