Job Description

Part-Time Visual Arts Wood Studio Teacher Merle-Smith Campus | Moravian Academy Do you find as much joy in teaching a student to hold a chisel as you do in finishing your own piece? Moravian Academy is looking for a skilled woodworker and passionate educator to lead our wood studio program at the Merle-Smith Campus. This part-time role, approximately eight class periods per week, is designed for someone who sees the workshop as a place where creativity, craftsmanship, and character all take shape together. You'll guide Upper School students in grades 9-12 from their first introduction to hand tools through advanced studio projects, designing curriculum, leading critiques, and cultivating a studio culture rooted in safety, respect, and artistic courage. At Moravian Academy, you'll join a collaborative Visual Arts team that values your expertise and supports your growth. You'll have the freedom to bring your own artistic vision into the classroom and the balance of a part-time schedule that honors your life outside school. Our community strives for excellence, engages with curiosity, acts with integrity, and builds genuine connections, and we look for those same qualities in the people who join us. Qualified candidates hold a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts, Woodworking, Design, in a related field, or have equivalent professional experience, along with demonstrated expertise in woodworking and experience teaching or mentoring adolescents in a studio or educational setting. A master's degree, secondary teaching experience, independent school background, or familiarity with digital tools such as CAD or CNC are all pluses. To apply, submit a resume and a letter of interest on this employment site. Selected candidates will be invited for an initial conversation followed by a campus visit. We encourage early applications, as this search is active.
