Job Description

Position Open- Sculptor Assistant/Public Sculpture Park Conservator Cold Hollow Sculpture Park www.coldhollowsculpturepark.com, a nonprofit art center in northern Vermont, is seeking a conservator of the buildings and extensive sculpture collection.
Qualifications:
Most important is a willingness to live in northern Vermont from early May to early November annually and a commitment to, and aptitude for, learning many new skills. Experience in steel fabrication, equipment maintenance, crane operation, rigging, and refinishing large outdoor painted sculptures would be a notable plus but not mandatory.
Scope of job:
The hire will initially be working as a studio assistant to sculptor, David Stromeyer www.davidstromeyer.com two days a week, May through early November, annually. Two other days a week during that period will be devoted to training of the necessary skills to, in-time, take over the refinishing and general maintenance of the Park's art collection. Additionally, the hire will be expected to tend to on-going building and equipment maintenance as well as other duties to advance the Park's activities. The hope is that the hire would eventually be able to research and source required materials as needed for projects, and develop a budget for approval by the executive director.
Compensation:
Initial salary will be $ 30-40/hour ($900-1200/week) depending on experience level for the six-month period annually. Additionally, a $1000 month living stipend will be offered for the six-month off-season period. There is also a possibility for the hire to pursue their own art, if desired, using some of the studio space and equipment.
