Position:
Audio Visual & IT Technician Compensation:
$28-$35 per hour commensurate with experience Reports to:
Facilities Manager Hours:
Full-time position; evenings, weekends, and holidays required as needed Valley Beth Shalom is a vibrant Conservative Synagogue in Encino, serving more than 1,200 families. VBS seeks a service-oriented professional skilled in live event AV, services, recording/streaming, and day-to-day technology support. This position is a key member of the facilities and operations team and reports to the Facilities & Logistics Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Audio/Visual Event Support Serve as the onsite Audio/Visual technician for assigned programs, events, meetings, and services. Assist with AV planning, scheduling, set-up, operation, and strike for onsite, hybrid, and virtual events. Communicate clearly with internal teams, clients, event managers, sales teams, clergy, and vendors to ensure proper set-up and execution. Provide hands-on AV support and practical leadership to ensure strong service and smooth events. Work with outside vendors as needed, including securing AV vendors, supporting quotes/proposals, and coordinating event orders. Familiar with Allen & Heath mixers, specifically SQ series and Avantis. Familiar with wireless microphone systems. Facilities Set-Up Coordinate with Program Director, Catering, Tech, vendors, security, and maintenance to ensure set-ups meet specifications. Ensure assigned equipment is working, maintained, and available for use. Serve as a backup and fail-safe to maintenance for A/V set-up and event redundancy. Assist with set-up adjustments, troubleshooting, and reset/strike with facilities and maintenance teams. Staffing Services, Programs, and Major Events Personally staff major events, programs, services, and meetings with complex set-ups and significant AV needs. Troubleshoot onsite event needs, including sound, microphones, projection, displays, lighting, streaming, and related technology. Maintain a calm, professional, service-oriented presence with clergy, staff, members, guests, vendors, and clients. Recording and Streaming Collaborate with Programming and stakeholders to ensure scheduled recording and streaming reaches the correct platform or destination. Support live-streaming and recording for services, programs, classes, and events, including set-up, monitoring, troubleshooting, and follow-through. Confirm schedules, equipment readiness, connectivity, and platform access before assigned programs and services. IT and Helpdesk Support Fulfill IT Helpdesk tickets and provide timely, customer-service oriented support for staff technology needs. Troubleshoot basic computer, printer, display, audio, video, connectivity, login, hardware, software, and peripheral issues. Respond to facilities-related helpdesk tickets with the Facilities & Logistics Manager, maintenance team, and vendors as appropriate. Escalate complex IT issues to the right internal or external support resources and follow through to resolution. Help maintain technology documentation, processes, inventory, and maintenance schedules for AV and related IT equipment. Recommend lifecycle upgrades, replacements, and new equipment purchases for AV and technology operations. Preferred Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience running professional audio, video, and/or lighting for live events, meetings, or houses of worship. Hands-on experience with audio, video, multimedia, production, streaming, hybrid meetings, and event technology. Comfort with computer technology, hardware platforms, collaboration tools, multimedia equipment, and related infrastructure. Basic IT troubleshooting experience, including computers, printers, displays, software, connectivity, and common helpdesk issues. Ideally trained in acoustics and sound. Calm and professional demeanor, including under stressful or time-sensitive situations. Excellent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills. Pleasant, positive interactions with others; ability to meet expectations and provide follow-up. Available for evening, weekend, and holiday assignments as needed, with compensating time off discussed with the supervisor. Ability to stand for extended periods, lift at least 50 lbs above waist height, bend, kneel, and squat. Comfortable working on ladders or lifts up to 25 feet in the air.
Pay:
$28.00 - $35.00 per hour
