Job Description

The Texas Senate is currently accepting applications for the position of:
AUDIO MANAGER
The Texas Senate Media Department seeks an experienced and accomplished Audio Manager to lead audio operations across the Capitol complex and throughout the state. This is a senior-level position requiring a combination of deep technical expertise, operational leadership, and a commitment to the highest standards of public service. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to production — someone who leads by example, builds strong vendor and staff relationships, and consistently delivers flawless results in a high-profile government environment. High integrity, credibility, and reliability are essential.
Position Summary/Overview:
The Audio Manager serves as the technical and operational authority for all audio systems within the Texas Senate. This role oversees audio design, installation, maintenance, crew scheduling, and event execution across venues of varying scale — from committee hearings to full legislative sessions and statewide events. Working in close collaboration with the broader media department, the Audio Manager drives continuous improvement in systems, workflows, and staff capabilities. This position requires flexibility, as live events may begin early, extend into evenings, or occur on weekends, with overtime as required by legislative and event schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Audio Operations & Engineering Operate audio consoles as Front of House or Monitor engineer for events of all sizes. Serve as system technician for both venue and remote sound systems. Design and install new sound systems, with thorough documentation of setup processes and system tuning. Maintain digital signal processing (DSP), software, and firmware system files. Perform real-time acoustic analysis and ensure audio-video synchronization across all productions. Create and maintain original master digital recordings for long-term archival purposes. Systems Maintenance & Documentation Document and monitor all repairs and maintenance services for audio systems. Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records for all audio equipment. Perform general maintenance tasks for Senate venues. Maintain comprehensive system documentation for all installed and portable audio systems. Crew & Production Management Supervise on-site crews and represent Senate Media at all productions. Identify and resolve equipment scheduling conflicts to ensure uninterrupted departmental operations. Assist production department staff with ongoing projects and venue operations. Provide technical support and guidance to clients and stakeholders. Leadership & Development Guide, support, and inspire audio staff to deliver exceptional customer service. Train new audio technicians in the proper use of audio systems and facility operations. Identify and implement opportunities to enhance the audio department and overall production processes. Build and maintain vendor relationships to support departmental needs and goals. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills:
Demonstrates organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Proficient in persuasive writing and budget management. Working knowledge of audio routing, networking, and signal flow. Experience in live event facility environments is highly desirable. Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system issues across control, audio, video, DSP, and networked AV environments. Required experience with AVoIP, Dante, and modern networked AV systems Strong working knowledge of IP networking principles Proven ability to analyze complex technical problems and implement effective solutions quickly Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor's degree required; equivalent professional experience may be considered. Minimum of five (5) years of proven experience in live event audio engineering. Demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following: FOH or monitor mixing, broadcast, studio recording, installation, or system design and optimization. Experience analyzing, organizing, and communicating technical information clearly in writing. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
AV Maintenance:
1 year (Required) Dante Certification Level 1, 2 (Required) and 3 (preferred) Comprehensive knowledge of digital and analog audio, recording and playback, acoustics, electronic repair, and console operation. Professional business attire is required.

$5,420.00 per month
