WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Lead AV Technician is responsible for overseeing installation crews, executing medium-to-large AV system deployments, ensuring technical accuracy, and delivering a professional customer experience. This role requires someone with strong hands-on installation skills, advanced troubleshooting abilities, and the capacity to lead technicians in a fast-paced environment. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Lead and coordinate installation activities for structured cabling, device mounting, rack fabrication, and system integration. Interpret complex schematics, risers, blueprints, and engineering documentation to guide the installation team. Perform and oversee terminations, soldering, network configuration, labeling, equipment mounting, and cable management. Conduct system testing, device configuration, power-up, signal flow verification, and onsite troubleshooting. Serve as the primary onsite point of contact for clients, contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders. Ensure all work meets AVTG quality, safety, and documentation standards. Manage daily task assignments, material usage, jobsite cleanliness, and tool accountability. Mentor and train AV Technician I and II team members to support their professional growth. Communicate progress, risk items, and change conditions to the Project Manager. Drive between multiple job sites as needed and represent AVTG with professionalism.
ITEMS TO CONSIDER
Lead Technicians must be comfortable working in active construction environments and enforcing safety protocols. Projects may require flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or overtime. Physical requirements include working on lifts, ladders, overhead installations, and carrying equipment.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING
FORMust-Haves Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills — able to direct crews and coordinate with clients, GCs, and trades. Advanced understanding of AV systems including displays, DSPs, microphones, cameras, switchers, amplifiers, control processors, and networking. Proven experience installing and terminating low-voltage cabling (Cat5e/6/6A, fiber, audio, control, video). Ability to independently troubleshoot AV, control, and network-related issues at the system level. Strong understanding of IP networking fundamentals: VLANs, PoE, addressing schemes, switch configuration basics, and streaming technologies. High attention to detail with the ability to read, interpret, and execute complex engineering drawings. Proven ability to manage time, resources, and personnel in a fast-paced field environment. Demonstrated commitment to safety and consistent adherence to OSHA and jobsite requirements. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Required Personal Tools (Day-One Ready) Lead Technicians must possess a complete professional-grade tool set, including: Cordless drill/driver and impact set Comprehensive hand tools (drivers, pliers, cutters, crimpers, compression tools, wrenches, ratchets) Soldering and heat-shrink tools Tape measure, torpedo level, stud finder, drywall saw Professional multimeter Advanced cable toner / signal tracing tools Punch-down tools, fiber prep tools (if applicable) Any preferred specialty tools used to execute high-quality AV installations Preferred Experience & Certifications 3-5+ years of commercial AV installation experience Experience leading installation crews or acting as lead on jobsite tasks Familiarity with Crestron, Extron, Biamp, QSC, Shure, and/or networked AV environments Experience with rack layout, power distribution, cable management standards AVIXA CTS or CTS-I certification (strongly preferred) OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification Ability to obtain government or sensitive-facility clearances
