Job Description

Position Overview The MidPen Media Center is seeking a reliable, technically skilled, and adaptable TV Studio & Field Technician to support professional studio productions, live events, community programming, and field shoots. This role requires hands-on experience with studio operations, lighting, audio, cameras, live switching, and post-production editing, while also providing strong client support and maintaining a professional production environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment where productions range from corporate shoots and live audience events to community access programming and educational workshops. This is not solely an editing role — strong live production and technical troubleshooting skills are essential. The position requires daytime, evening, and occasional weekend availability depending on production schedules. Key ResponsibilitiesStudio Production & Technical Operations Set up, operate, and troubleshoot: Studio cameras Audio systems and microphones Lighting grids and fixtures Teleprompters Video switchers / TriCaster systems Playback and recording systems Prepare studio spaces for professional client productions, interviews, panels, podcasts, livestreams, and audience events. Ensure productions are properly recorded, monitored, and backed up. Assist with lighting setups that create a professional on-camera look. Support livestreams and hybrid productions. Monitor technical quality throughout productions and proactively identify issues before they become problems. Field Production Support location shoots and remote productions as needed. Set up portable camera, audio, and lighting equipment in the field. Safely transport and manage equipment. Maintain professionalism while representing MidPen Media Center on client sites. Editing & Media Management Edit video content using professional editing software. Organize project files, media assets, and backups responsibly. Export content for web, broadcast, social media, and client delivery. Maintain proper file management and archival practices. Coordinate with producers and clients regarding revisions and deliverables. Client & Production Support Provide professional and courteous support to studio clients, community producers, and staff. Help clients understand studio workflows and technical limitations. Communicate production concerns clearly and early to management. Support productions while maintaining MidPen operational standards and policies. Equipment & Facility Maintenance Help maintain studio equipment, control rooms, editing systems, and storage systems. Identify equipment failures, maintenance needs, or workflow inefficiencies. Assist with inventory tracking and equipment organization. Follow safety procedures and help maintain a clean, production-ready environment. Required Skills & Qualifications Experience operating professional video cameras and audio equipment. Understanding of studio lighting techniques. Experience with live switching and/or TriCaster systems preferred. Video editing experience using software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills under pressure. Ability to work both independently and on production teams. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to communicate professionally with clients, staff, and community members. Reliable transportation for occasional field productions preferred. Ability to lift and move production equipment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in television studio production, livestreaming, or live event production. Familiarity with broadcast workflows and signal routing. Experience with teleprompters, PTZ cameras, and streaming platforms. Knowledge of media storage, backup, and archival workflows. Experience working with clients in professional production environments. Work Schedule Must be available for daytime productions. Must have flexibility for evening and occasional weekend productions. Schedule may vary depending on studio bookings and live events. Ideal Candidate Traits The ideal candidate: Stays calm under pressure during live productions. About MidPen Media Center MidPen Media Center is a nonprofit community media organization serving the San Francisco Peninsula through professional production services, public access television, media education, and community storytelling. The organization supports both community creators and professional clients through studio rentals, field production, livestreaming, educational programming, and multimedia content creation.
Pay:
$30.00 - $35.00 per hour
